    NFL picks: week 17

So we're finally down to the last week of the season, and there are still 3 spots left in the NFC to be decided (Pittsburgh still hasn't clinched officially, but they should be able to beat the Lions) thanks to the hot Redskins beating the Giants and the Panthers gagging away a game against the Cowboys (sorry gismo!). Meanwhile, the Seahawks clinched home-field in the NFC thanks to Alexander's 3 TDs against the Colts.

In the last thread, EliManning brought up the Tomlinson vs. Alexander debate on being the first pick in fantasy drafts. I will admit that I was one of the ones who adamantly said Tomlinson should go before Alexander. Here were my two reasons: first, before this year, Alexander had a tendency to score in bunches and then disappear statwise for a few weeks. Tomlinson was consistant in his scoring in previous years. Second, Tomlinson is involved in the passing game more than Alexander is. Those two things put him over Alexander in my book. Funny thing is, in the non-OTF league I play, the guy with the first pick agonized over who to take, and took Alexander. He ended up winning the title. Course, he had Larry Johnson too, but he wouldn't have gotten to the title game without Alexander's numbers.

Anyway, Nerf-Herder gets his first weekly crown with a 12-4 showing. Dutch, Lostprophet, and FreezerBurn shared second place. Overall, Xoranix leads BeefChunks by 6 games, so he should win that race. Xoranix also leads the percentage race, but Amra is 0.1% behind BeefChunks for second place. Senor Beezer took a hit in the standings thanks to last week and is now in 4th place.

    Week 17 picks:
Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers
    N.Y. Giants at Oakland Raiders
    Arizona Cardinals at Indianapolis Colts
    Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns
    Buffalo Bills at N.Y. Jets
    Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons
Cincinnati Bengals at Kansas City Chiefs
    Detroit Lions at Pittsburgh Steelers
Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots
New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers
Houston Texans at San Francisco 49ers
    Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars
    Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings
    Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles
St. Louis Rams at Dallas Cowboys

I was kind of hoping that the Broncos/Chargers game would have more significance this week, but the Chargers shot themselves in the foot by losing too many close games. Really, the only game that looks to be fun to watch is the Dolphins/Pats game. Pats are fighting for the third seed, while the Dolphins are looking to finish the season over 0.500, which is not-too-shabby considering they have no QB down there. But I bet the game most people will be interested to watch is the Texans/49ers "duel of the century", if only because the loser gets the inside track to the number one pick next year. Part of me wonders if the schedule makers did that on purpose to spice up an otherwise horrible match-up.

    Good luck everyone!

I believe the MVP award should be given to Shaun Alexander this season, seeing as he may break the rushing touchdown record this week.

I went with Alexander, but Palmer made me think twice and I think he deserves a nod. Alexander could have put up lower numbers and the Seahawks would still be in the playoffs, whereas I think Palmer was the difference between this year's 11-4 and last year's Bengals get-together at Hooters to watch the playoffs on TV and have hot wings.

Palmer has been fantabulous and is the main reason the Bengals are where they are this year compared to last year.

Alexander has been the best player, but it's not called the "Best Player Award" and he's been near this solid for seattle before. So they are learning to play around him.

It may not be called the "Best Player Award," but that's who it always goes to. Notice in the MLB it's also called the MVP, but a few years ago it went to the below .500 Rangers with A-Rod. Shaun Alexander should win it, end of story.

    Adrian.

I voted Carson Palmer. Who would be the Rookie of the Year this year?
