This MF guide is written with the purpose of getting wealth - end game usable or tradable items. TC3 Items are usually not that kind of items, they are nice for collectors, but even they usually hunt them with characters twinked to the bones AFTER they hunted Hell areas countless times, because it's more effective time-wise. (Or you want to say that you can collect TC3 faster with untwinked 1-pass characters than with a twinked 600MF 200FCR sorc?)
When a starting player wants to get some wealth and good items as soon as possible, he really shouldn't bother with full clears and low level MFing. My guide is written for those players, not for tournament 1-pass character. This angle is covered very well by jiansonz guide and as jjscud pointed out, it's a very different angle.
I myself don't bother with huntog of TC3 at all. I still miss only Tyrael's Might and Torch of Iro. The odds are, I will find the Torch of Iro sooner than Tyraels anyways, so why even care?
No. I'm saying that when playing untwinked characters up their MF is a sound advice and has the result that you'll find those TC3 items.
If you play lot's of untwinked characters and want the full grail there is no need to gear up a ultimate MF character and go to normal acts for boring runs. Just do it with your one pass untwinked tourney characters. In addition that they'll find them they get to use them. When have your characters last used such items as Pelta Lunata or Rixot's Keen?
Topi
Rixots keen is used often for my twinked low level characters as is Civerbs cudgel. They are both awesome weapons for the level they can be equipped. Deaths hand and sash are also amazing. There are actually a lot of the TC3's that are very very useful!
I am hoping like crazy that my family tournament characters manage to find some TC3's like deaths hand for the tourny.
Anyways all points above being valid there are times and places for both types of MF. I alternate MF on high level monsters with questing and tournament characters so I have a nice mix of TC87 and TC3 items. The only item I think I will probably really struggle to find is tancreds hobnails so whenever I gamble I always gamble boots if they pop up in the hope of netting one.
Again, this guide is for EFFECTIVE MF, and imho it's not more effective to hunt items (even TC3) with untwinked characters. Not everyone plays untwinked characters.
This seems to be quote you disagree with:
This is the advice meant for people who want to start MFing (and twinking) and get some GOOD items as soon as possible. Who wants Pelta Lunata if he can get Mosers sooner?Originally Posted by Hrus
Playing untwinked (tournament characters) is very different from playing twinked or building a first true MF character (like at the restart of ladder or in SP after HD crash etc.) and I don't cover that style in my guide...
great guide. i have done the cold sorc and it works good until you get to hell with all the cold immunes lol gonna go with the fire and cold this time.
Aloha. 2 questions:
1) the merc mf adds up to the player's mf? (i am pretty sure that's the case from what i've read but i want a straight _yes_)
2) Can someone draw a cheap curve on mspaint to show the benefits of mf? Or at least give a percentage or whatever. (to see how noticable the difference is after 400mf)
1) Yes, but only when the merc does the killing.
2) Effective MF picture
Thanks that was perfect $
I thought there was no diminishing returns if you do not have over +100%?
