I am curious to see what others find funny in comedic performance. I ask since I watched a reunion of the Carol Burnett Show. I can't think of the last time I laughed so hard. Tim Conway is just so funny. Since being laid off, I have also found Mama's Family on TBS and was able to revisit the belly laughs I had in the past. I find little funny in the comedy of today.
Carol Burnett did a variety show without swear words and smut. I think that she paved the path for SNL and MadTV.
What is comedy in 2005? I like to laugh at skits that don't involve sex or bodily functions (other than the farting Drew Carey episode). I don't find it funny to hear the f-bomb after every other word.
Oooh, this is a good time to bring up what Scott Adams (creator of Dilbert) calls the 6 requirements of comedy or something. He says he always makes a conscious effort to fufill these. According to him, something must have at least 2 of these things to be funny, and the more the better:
Cute (as in kids and animals)
Naughty
Bizarre
Clever
Recognizable (You’ve been there)
Cruel
I always go for bizarre, and enjoy cruel, recognizable, naughty, and clever. I enjoy cute things, but I don't find them funny.
Give me the 3 Stooges!
I like Bill Cosby's stand up, he is clean and really funny. At times I can enjoy the really obscene guys too. Potty humor, not really my cup of meat unless it is done really well and isn't some really bizarre no one has ever heard of it kinda thing. Political jokes aren't even really jokes most of the time, just a tiny bit of time when the comedian gets to wank off in front of the crowd. Jon Stewart is the exception.
you mean bill cosby's early routine. his late routine IS dirty. that's part of his success, he doesn't play to just one audience.Originally Posted by {KOW}Spazed
I have no idea how to define comedy. somethings make me laugh till I choke, and somethings I just turn off, but i don't know that there's much of a pattern.
I'll take the Marx brothers and Ernie Kovacs for $200 in "Classic Comedy", Alex.
