Wrong. There's no such thing as BM. If you play with a group that has rules, then you have rules. Otherwise, it's all up for grabs.

honestly imo the term "fairness" is always in peoples minds... we cant help it it part of our nature

theres no rules when man took its first steps on the planet,, but society developed.
we have ideals, they lead to rules.



in a game/competition peoples idea of what is fair, differes,, but rules are still there.

without some idea of fairness whats the point of competition?
how can a win or a loss have meaning?
whats it worth to win if its without good competition?

NK, camping, etc.. we hear this over and over again on our realms.. such repetition, is it truely arbitrary?
is any rule arbitrary or does it come from somewhere for reason?

Jerkazoid, please dont go into pholosophy. Several reasons for that:
1) Most ppl's idea of determining BG/GM is "he wins, me no like, he BM" Not much of a thought process there. And while the ppl who come to this thread are obviously an exception, the arguments should stay away from that field.
2) Philosophy is arbitrary. The only thing you can achieve by even mentioning it here is to say that any argument is pointless since all points are equally as valid, which in turn negates any reason for this thread to be here in the first place. (and that includes your own statement)
3) So far in the known history of every philosophical movement, anything considered "true" has been so for a certain (and usually short) period of time generally being determined by the society's needs(also in different small societies). Any philosophical statement can be "better" or "worse" argumented than another, while both are considered evenly true as a possibility. And all we do here is try to argument us.
4) If we come to an agreement on this forum regarding BM/GM it wont suddenly change everything other than the personal views of the ppl ON THIS FORUM.

If you feel so inclined do an onthological breakdown of manners in terms of Diablo LoD, but I can guarantee that will not help you in this topic.

P.S. while society and the restrictions that come with it have indeed developed, virtual space is the place where ppl go, sometimes with the specific goal in mind, to find a way around those restrictions, without the consequences. So the standards dont apply, other than personal moral fiber and that, my friend, differs from one person to the next.

Here's a good rule of thumb for the average pvper, that even the simplest of us can understand. Don't be a jerk.

And don't try to argue about the definition of jerk either, you all know what it means, regardless of your personal morals. We could all argue about what exactly the color blue is too, but that doesn't mean we don't know blue when we see it.

On the other hand, if you Want to be a jerk, thats fine, as long as you are prepared to have someone be a jerk right back . For instance, if a Foher absorbs my fb sorc, I get my windy. Normally I wouldn't host a foher with my windy, since that would be being a jerk. Another instance is, if me and a friend decide to bm a pub game for whatever reason(usually just to annoy them into teaming up), we don't cry if we lose 2v6, since we brought it on ourselves.

While some ppl dont understand what they are doing in that field others do. And regardless of what you think about it in general, it's the basis of all sciences exact and otherwise. To put it simply ppl have always asked questions and always will. Thus Enter philosophy. And it's by no means a waste of time. It's basically human nature (curiousity, creativity and imagination) put into some form of rules.

And btw I dont agree with that "be a jerk and have someone be a jerk to you" way since it leads to a whole new jerk-based style of gaming lol. But at least I agree that if you do something, you should expect some of the same back at you.

Haha, when i think philosophy, I think of people wondering about things that won't help anyone in any way, like what is the meaning of life, why can't we all get along, blah blah blah. If you want to wonder about how to make a better mousetrap, then by all means, knock yourself out, at least you're being productive then.

I'm saying, if you want to play nice(gm), and have others play nice back, then don't be a jerk. If you don't care whether they play nice or not, then be a jerk all you want, just be prepared for them being jerks as well. Sometimes you have to be a jerk to someone to make a challenge for youself. The average pub game isn't a challenge for 2 decently equiped duelers, UNLESS you can get them to all team up, use absorb/pots and nk you, Then you have a challenge. Most times the only way to get them to do that, is to nk them first :(. Thats why I like the asians(Probably asians, could be eskimos for all I know ) that come out at like 2 am with llllllll or OOOoooOO in their name. They don't spam you with idiotic comments, and they automatically team up and nk the crap out of you with some combination of hammerdins and zons. You don't have to waste 15 minutes annoying them into teaming up first, and they usually offer a decent challenge(ever try to 1v4 2 hammerdins and 2 zon? kinda hard).
