Fort if you're using greif, duress if you're not.
Fort increases the damage you get from grief and it's not shown on the charecter screen.
So say you have a perf 400 grief and you wear fort you're doing another 1200 damage that the char screen isn't showing. Thats another 200 damage per smite and nothing beats that.
All the pro smiters use enigma for the base stats and dr. Ber Shako (18) Ber HoZ (8) Dungo (15) and Engima (8) = 49% DR. The only other armor that rivals an enigma has to be btals armor, which is bugged and i would not even recommend using it. Have fun using the fort when u get prisoned by a nec =)
Grief does enough damage on its own and the marginal damage added to it by fort is not even needed nor is it ever necessary
I have read many threads about the best pvp smiter armor and people more knowledgable than i have consistently answered that enigma is the best choice. Fort adds 50 more pvp damage, which IS very marginal when compared to the damage by Grief. Enigma, with its +2 skills, adds nearly the same damage plus provides other incredible mods (yes +strength adds to ur smite damage considerably)
Fusa and Mak0, the 2 best V/T in USEast, all use enigma. So, yes while i am appealing to authority, there must be a correlation between their build and their skills.
Common consensus: Enigma or Btals (yuck)
Edit - i rummaged through more threads and found more things to add:
1) the +2 skill on enigma is effectively +2 to bo, +2to foh and +2 to conviction (for V/T), +2 smite, +2 HS etc
2) Enigma - %5 max life, more life than the +life given by Fort
Im pretty sure u will still get bone prisoned sooner or later by a good nec. So desyncing with charge is not a solution
First off, a v/t build is very different then a pure smiter build and yes, for v/ts enigma is clearly the best choice.
I don't know where you're getting 50 either. Perhaps you could point me towards a thread. Correct me if I'm wrong but with fort
400 damage from grief +300%=1200 damage
200/2(for 50% dr)=100 more per smite
340 damage from grief +300%=1020 damage
170/2=85 more per smite
400 damage from grief=400
67/2=34 more damage per smite
340 damage from grief=340
57/2=29 more damage from smite
Exactly how much damage does +2 skills and 65 str add? A max damage grief is less then half the damage from a minimum damage with fort. As for +bo/hs, well you see, what most people will do is take a little concept called prebuffing and apply it. It works wonders really.
i wont bother proving my point when better people than u or i have already settled it. You can continue believing that fort is the best smite armor but i could not care less. I am not a genius in the workings of diablo but am merely regurgitating what BETTER people than u have done. Thanks.
Perhaps you should link to something more then
Person 1: OMGS BTALS!!!
Person 2: OMGS BTALS IS EXPENSIVE USE ENIGMA NEWB!!!!
Person 3: OMGS FORT GIVES MORE DAMAGE!!!
Person 4: OMGS FORT DOENS'T WORK WITH SMITE!!!
Person 3: YES IT DOES NEWB!!!
Person 5: COH!
Everyone else: NO COH!
if u ignore those childish posts, which consist of relatively 40%, u will find things more enlightening than the stuff u dealt. I refuse to respond anymore to ur posts if u choose to ignore the advice of others. Perhaps we can arrange a duel between 2 smiters with enigma and fort?
Oh yea, anyone who bothers being a pure smiter in pvp will only get owned. Its commonly known that V/T is the way to go so ur idea of using fort shall only be useful for those bound for failure.
Edit - the spams are there mostly because for every post u get fg (forum gold).
Btw: Prebuffing? Sure waste stash place (and time) for a 3x2 armor with +2 skills. Sorry but stash place is more useful to hold the numerous shields etc that Smiters need, ex: exile, upped HoZ, Stormshield (for max dr + absorb), Sanctuary, Lo shaft/shako and more.
