I'm sure most of you remember the story of Moses and Pharaoh. Moses goes to big bad Pharaoh and says "let my people go", he says no, cue many plagues and nastinesses. What few people remember is that it was all a set-up. Pharaoh was inclined to let the **** go, but God deliberately made him change his mind (and again after every single plague, damn that book is repetitive) just so he'd have an excuse to inflict all his wonderful plagues:

1: And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
2: Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.
3: And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.
4: But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.

Never heard this interpretation before. I am curious where you come up with the notion that Pharaoh was going to let them go on his own. He kept going back on his word to Moses and Aaron after each plague ended. The Pharaoh made his proverbial bed and hence had to sleep in it. What Aero said..your link doesn't match the passages you quote.

It's Exodus 7, not Exodus 8.

Exodus 7

And personally, I read it the same way that dondrei does - God hardens Pharoah's heart against the Israelites so that He 'may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies'.
