Really? Maybe it's just the word that's written strangely, that's why some people got confuzzled... :scratch:Originally Posted by 5Ws
I left that "o" out on purpose. I was . . . testing you. Yeah, that's it. :fish:Originally Posted by 5Ws
The "kyō" is like the first part of Kyoto or the last part of Tokyo. (The circumflex accent is there to show that it's an elongated vowel sound.)

Now that you mention it, I can see it but clear?Originally Posted by 5Ws
HELL NO!
I'm looking at the character now and it's like chinese LEET speak where things are written incorrectly....very incorrectly.
"Teach" would become "734(l-l"..
WOA? 1337 speak for Chinese? The hell are you talking about?Originally Posted by TheUnchosen
There are literally 20+ ways of writing styles in Chinese, trust me, I've seen a lot more stuff that's less "clear".
Remember, it's not English, a letter is a letter no matter how you write it. It's different in Chinese, just because a dot is somewhere else or a line is connected to another doesn't mean it's wrong.
eh, yeah theres a lot of different writing styles, but i agree it was probably some hack tatoo artist that just doesnt know much about it. heck, sometimes they just make up meanings for words when they find a symbol that looks cool.
side note, i didnt know that many ppl knew some chinese. im taking my first classes in it this semester, and i have a midterm coming up :( but its fun anyways. zaijian!
I dunno, there's Traditional and Simplified Chinese.Originally Posted by 5Ws
I'm from Taiwan so Traditional all the way....
I fail to spot "teach" in the character, I mean it just doesn't look anything like it.
Oh well, guess you more observant than me.
Wow, there are alot of Chinese people here
I'm Chinese too. Go Simplified!!!!!!!
And yes, that's jiao, or teach.
Simplified is for noobs, traditional is the only way to go!!
As for the word tattooed on that guy. I think I know why it's so hard to spot the word teach for some people. Because the top isn't too visible, and the bottom part is written really poorly.
my chinese has been steadily degrading since i was 6, and the bottom left part really threw me off. i think the guy should get it fixed.Originally Posted by TurbulentTurtle
