I don't play the game anymore but I have played it so much that I am left with a ton of memories. As it's true for real life events, the first impressions left on me by this game are pretty much everlasting. I'd like to hear from you folks what it was for you when you first played the game. What did grab or not you attention and why. It can be a very factual event or situation. I think this thread could be started by a few memories of my own.
- The first thing that struck me about this game were the graphics. I was impressed by the quality of the graphics and I especially remember saying it to myself when I first entered the maggot's lair. Remember that 6 years ago game graphics were far from what they are now.
- Electronblade ! was the name of the first high character I remember seeing and trading with in a game. She was a bowzon level 44. That level might seem low but this was just a couple of weeks after the game was released and there were not many high level characters back then. Futhermore, bowzon were not easy to play in early patches.
- Feldstath was the name of my very first character. He was an S/S barb that never made it pass act-3 Kurast Bazaar in NM. He was retired at a mesly level 34. As it was the case for most barbarian players, we had yet to discover the almighty power of Whirlwind. Believe it or not it took some times for someone to understand what this skill was about, how it worked and how powerful it was. I also remember saying to myself that this game was darn hard.
- The second character I ever made was a Paladin named Layman. It's was a crucial moment for me since it was the beggining of a love affaire with that character class. he didn't get very far and was retired at level 31 with his skills placement all messed up. A good thing I can be stubborn when necessairy because it took me at least half a dozen attempts to finally get a Paladin to beat the game in all 3 mods. I was determined to do it with a melee paladin but I had to settle for an Hammerdin. High level melee Paladin were a rare sight through out classic.
- The first time I saw someone wearing the full sigon set I was like WOW that's cool. He was barb in act-4 normal. He told me that he had some friends with high level character that had provided min with the pieces. Believe or not, the Sigon's shield was worth a SoJ back than.
Well, enough of my memories what about yours ?
My first time playing this game was in 1.09 a few years back. I had no clue as to what I was doing, so my first char (Paladin) got so screwed over. I put points in every skill, and put points in energy and such. Luckily, I had a pretty experienced friend there to help me get on my feet.
Back when I was still relatively new to the game. I remember the SoJ/.08 item duping spree in 1.09 that changed the economy forever. I had a friend who had a friend who had one of those dupe methods, so I filled a few mules with all those duped items. The game became not fun for me, since I had everything and could afford everything. I suppose I was in a way thankful when that account got banned for some reason. Luckily, I had started a new account with a sorc recently, so I was not left completely poor. I started out again and in all, filled about 11-12 accounts full of chars and items in later years, all the while remaining legit.
I still have some of my very first characters.
I remember the good 'ol v1.09 days of UsEast Trade forum cow games. So many of my closest friends on D2 from these forums left the game by now. I really miss all of them.
I remember the economy being based on 100spdcs.
 Well, I don't know of many players who haven't messed up a couple of characters at the start of their Diablo career. I know I have done my share....Originally Posted by Evrae Altana

I remeber wen i started playing back in 1.09 , i always loved swords and cuting power (PS, im not a phsyco) , the first char i made was a pally named, something....stalker , and i had a good freind named "lordhasladdor or something. and my first pally build was a melee pally, .....he had lvl 30 might  i was so poor that i was using white/magic gear.
I wonder how many more years people will continue to flood bnet playing diablo2 lod.![]()
The best memory has to be release day in classic and there was a waiting line to create a game. No joke, up to five minutes sometimes. A little ticker would show your place in line and everything.
And the first game we made (clan, back when clans where around with D1, D2 kinda killed them). The few lucky souls who where able to get a copy all created different characters. I managed to get a sorc, and of course put a point into every single skill just to see what they did
.
Running into Blood Raven for the first time. What a blast.
Walking into the Chaos Sant for the first time, with my jaw droped, yup, this is hell all right.
And finding my very first Uni, a Frostburn.
My best memory has to be my first character ever.. MagixRL, i put like 200 str, 100 dex, and had no points left over for anything else.. I maxed Lightning, TS, Orb, and Meteor, it was HILARIOUS i was so weak. -70 all resistances in hell, couldn't touch a monster. Then my friend alerted me to here and few guides, i lurked for a long time then joined.
Sure, I remember how it was like seeing how the game was like when I first started playing. It was back in 2002 or so.
My first character was a sorceress; the name was "radasat", a variation of the name "Tassadar" from Starcraft. The feeling I had as I progressed through the Den of Evil the first time I miss very much. I'll remember that rare feeling after taking out Corpsefire, watching him drop a septic short staff of whatever, and hearing that choir chord in B-minor that plays about a minute into the act 1 cave music while my sorc stands there shrouded by the seemingly infinite darkness...
By the way, that sorc did make it through Hell successfully after I fixed her up and made her into a tri-elementalist of sorts.
Deep.
Did anyone else notice, when you watch someone play a game over their shoulder it looks so awesome, so mysterious, you are saying to yourself you would NEVER understand this game if you got it?
For Wc3(RoC): I watched someone use golems to annihilate an enemy base, it was so awesome.. then i bought the game, it was easy, and i was dissapointed.
For D2: Wow.. i was amazed, gigantic levels, amazing design on a few levels (arreat summit being the best, travincal is very nice) and i still pretty much feel this way.
for WoW: Still feel like i won't know how to play it..
