I put a 16% MF + poison resist rare jewel on mine. But + all resists / + FHR/ +Dex / + Life or a rainbow facet are more generally preferred.

i think u got ur facts wrong about only needing dex for blocking (if i am wrong i owe u a beer). I can't really be bothered in giving my sources where i read it (asn forum i fink(, cuz its really late here in Sydney yawn

Orphan meant dex in contrast to str, not dex in contrast to everything else. Blocking depends on dex, level and base blocking of the shield plus blocking bonuses. See the Strategy Compendium (link found in my sig).

Supposing his sorc used Energy Shield (resists would be useless).

What would you put into the shield and Occy?

I'd probably put an ist in it, but a nice res all jewel would certainly be a viable option as well, possibly one with other useful mod's like dex or - requirements. As for the shield, a pdaimond is hard to beat. Visceratuant and moser's are nice shield's. The reason i recommend this - req is in case you later wanted to use a stormshield or something like that. Or possibly up that visceratuant later, which i plan to do myself but i've never up'd one before and am unsure about the stats required to weild it afterward.
