what do i have to type to get players-X to work again?

Typing /players x is enough to trigger it. Note though, that it won't work on the realms. It only works in single player or open battle.net.

It's a command that you can use to simulate a game that has more players. It increase the amount of experience you get from monsters (though also increases their HP), and decreases the "no drop" rate (thus improves drop rate). It's especially useful in single player.

Just note though, that for purposes of drop calculations, the additional players granted by the "players x" command is counted as unpartied people.
