See, you don't even understand that being a soldier, regardless of whether you've been in combat or not, requires extraordinary sacrifice and you don't seem to understand. If you don't even understand that, I'd hardly expect you to understand anything else I've said.Originally Posted by maccool
I'll say it again. Don't believe me? Go ask a soldier who's been there and done it. I have and my accounts, despite my lack of combat experience, are remarkably accurate, at least, according to them. I encourage you to ask and find out what it's like so that you appreciate what they do more. Go ahead.
I expect he's just waiting for the flower-child poetry. Myself, I always preferred the Dubes to that Rod McKuen-inspired rot.Originally Posted by llad12
Module, you're wasting your breath. Those who can't concieve of the sacrifices in an abstract form will hardly be able to grasp it from a opposition viewpoint. Remember what's happened with the "Have you forgotten" threads, or my "I met a hero" thread for that matter?
Incidentally, the Marine Lt. is hooked up with a model and is blogging. I'll not share the link when I get it with most OTF'ers, since their view of "support the troops" borders on obscenity.
P.S. I finally checked the site, and didn't manage to see anything horrific - though I don't doubt that there could be some horribly tasteless or disgusting pics from Iraq. I guess that's the reason I resent the views expressed here at the OTF corrall - can anyone here be so certain that they're better than these individuals, were the circumstances different?
(I wonder if someone posted a pic of my widely-hated Bat.Cdr. taking a dump...)
And perhaps there shouldn't be any war either ... but that's a little optimistic isn't it? ... sorta like your statement above.Originally Posted by Module88
Instead of flinging flimsy and foolish accusations at me, perhaps you should turn your eyes to Washington DC ... where the real politicians are ... the ones who started this war and sent our young men to fight and die. They are the ones who seek political gain and favor.
If you think this war is wrong, then write them or sign petitions. Speak out and let your voice be heard.
When our voices are strong enough, maybe we can stop this bloodshed and our soldiers can come home.
YOU admitted you had a political motive and agenda- not me.Originally Posted by llad12

I think the war was wrongly started. But I'm not goint to sign a petition that will make their sacrifices null and void. Once the goal in Iraq is completed, I'll happily sign any petition requesting a withdrawl. But as some mothers who lost sons and daughters in Iraq put it, "I won't let their deaths be for nothing." As wrong as the war is, it would be even worse to let them die for nothing. If you think this war is wrong, then write them or sign petitions. Speak out and let your voice be heard.

Raise the argument of "it's better to cut our losses" if you want. But if you were a soldier out there who's been fighting and seeing friends killed, would you want to finish the job your friends died for or would you want to turn tail and go home? Would you ever forgive yourself if you let your friend die for nothing?

I have written similar statements before, however, I guess my bottle of Geritol was getting low and the mind was wandering.

I encourage you to find the post where I say that I don't appreciate what soldiers do. Or anyone who chooses to serve their country (politicans obviously excepted). Go ahead.Originally Posted by Module88

You don't even understand that the sacrifices begin with the preparation to be a soldier. So, I understand a hell of a lot more than you at least. :rolleyes:I'm calling you on your asinine claim that you know more than anyone else here about what it's like to be in war or in the military with absolutely nothing other than thinking about it as a boy and chatting up a veteran.
I know my own limits/weaknesses, and strive to improve myself. I've not seen you anything other than poop on others... how many critics are remembered for their own merits?Originally Posted by maccool

So lets wait 5-7 years ... raise the KIA to 10,000 and wounded to 100,000 and the war costs to the stratosphere. Let's wait until the American public goes bonkers ...
Then we can declare victory, and withdraw.
Oh, be sure and let those last few thousand American casualties know that you didn't want them to die ... for a mistake.
Yeah, there's no fool like... nevermind.Originally Posted by llad12
