First, I need a name for this tourny, any suggestions? I want something to do with luck preferably. Free PGem to whoever suggests a good name (wow!)
Here are the rules I have so far:
Equipment rules:
1. You may only equip your starting equipment and stuff you have gambled (you can pick up and sell anything.), with the exeptions below.
2. You can equip items given to you as a quest reward, and you can use your imbues. You can only socket items you could already equip.
3. You can socket things however you like, but because you can only equip things that have been gambled or imbued you will not be able to make runewords (unless I suppose you make one out of your starting items).
4. You can buy potions, books, scrolls, and you can repair stuff.
Character build rules:
Note: this bit is partly plagurised from a MP tournament I saw somewhere else, just so you know. I thought it was a nice idea, and wanted something to go with the gambling bit. The other tournament had 4 skills to max, I thought that would not be possible for many skill selections in SP.
1. Your character class will be chosen randomly.
2. You will have 4 skills you have to get to 15 / 3 skills you have to max, chosen randomly. (Opinions on which of these two option is more workable?) (you won't get 2 or more barb masteries, 2 or more druid spirits, wearbear and werewolf. Any other things that would just be pointless?)
3. You have one mulligan.
4. Your character's name will have to begin with a letter that is randomly chosen.
5. If you die you can restart with a different randomly-chosen character, you will not be allowed a mulligan for this character even if you did not use the first mulligan.
Trade/MP:
1. MP is permitted between tourney members.
2. Trading is not permitted.
Other rules:
1. You must get all waypoints and comlete all quests (apart from imbue and socket) before moving on to the next act, but you don't need to do them in order.
2. SC only, when you die you are out. (it's SC only to ensure that everyone can mp with each other, version permitting).
3. 1.10, 1.11, or 1.11b. No RRM or RWM (if you have these installed, I believe you can just make a new shortcut that doesn't include the 'path' stuff to play without the mods? Could someone confirm this?)
4. Atma use: you can mule on and off all you like.
Scoring:
1. 1 point for each WP and quest (2 for halls of the dead in NM and hard. Any others that should be worth 2?)
2. 10 for finishing each act
3. 10 for each set/unique gambled
4. 5/4/3/2/1 for best/second best etc item gambled (again decided by vote)
5. 5/4/3/2/1 if your build is judged (I'll hold a vote to decide which) hardest, second hardest, etc.
6. 1 point to someone randomly.
Prizes:
As my self-found grail stash on this PC consists of 3 crappy items, any donations to be given as prizes would be good.
1. Mule off into a prize stash all sets/uniques (expect ones that you want to keep for yourself, ie grail stuff), flawless and pGems, and good items that you find.
2. Everyone will get at least one item, winner gets first choice and the most items. When I know how many items there are, I'll post exactly how many everyone gets. I'll keep the different version stashes seperate.
I think that's everything covered... Anything that needs to be added/changed? And which of the 2 skill selection thingys are better?
Some items can't be gambled (necro heads, wands, staves, barb helms, druid helms, (pally shields?)), I was thinking of getting everyone to pick up and send to me all non-white or grey items like this that they find, and then ramdomly mixing them up (version permitting) and sending everyone back as many items as they sent in, this would allow the classes that equip these items to use them, but still keep it random.
How long should it run for?
You can sign up in this thread, I will also post a finalised sign-up thead when I have a start date (probably in a weeks time, I plan to leave the sign ups open until near the end) and name and stuff.
This looks quite interesting. A few initial thoughts:
It should be HC & SC as to allow those that prefer to play HC can participate. It doesn't affect the tounrey at all.
RWM users should be allowed as hardly anyone (if anyone at all) will be making runewords, and if they do, then they will be restricted to the vanilla ones only. As trading is not permitted there is no impact there.
Another idea for the skill rules is that every skill has to have one point placed in it before a second can be added, etc.
Finally, perhaps you could have an "in-house" Gambling system for class-specific items. You keep a stash of the items, someone chooses to gamble & pays x gold to you & you randomly choose them an item & send it. Or you could have 1 class specific gift item per Act finished.
Could call it the "Luck Dip" Tourney.
It'd affect MPing, and the class-specific items (as some people don't like to trade between HC and SC). I could keep seperate stashes of class-specific items for HC and SC I suppose.Originally Posted by Tasdaz
I will allow it if the shortcut thing I said isn't correct, but I need conformation on this. It'd affect the class-specifics.Originally Posted by Tasdaz

I'd have (to have time) to go find lots of class-specifics... and I don't think gold can be sent through ATMA. Could make them just drop the gold on the floor though.Originally Posted by Tasdaz

True about the MP and items, being SC here you forget these things. Maybe you could get all class-specific items found sent to you at the end of each act or something like that & then have a SC & HC stash of them. Dropping gold on the ground would work. Each gamble would be say 100,000 gold with a maximum of 10 gambles per character. It'd affect MPing, and the class-specific items (as some people don't like to trade between HC and SC). I could keep seperate stashes of class-specific items for HC and SC I suppose.

This rule would be in addition to your current rules on skills.I wanted something a bit more random than that.
Add it to the prize stash if I winYou may have won the wonderful PGem if someone doesn't come up with a better name!![]()
Yeah each act is a good time I think. I'll have to think a bit more on how to dristrubute them.Originally Posted by Tasdaz
OK, that's a good idea then. Which of the 2 skill set ideas is best? 3@20 or 4@15?Originally Posted by Tasdaz

Playing on this a bit, perhaps each character class has a "god". Each character is granted a starting class specific item at the start, which must be equipped as soon as it can be. The character must always have a class-specific item equipped in recognition of his god. The player is allowed 6 prayers, with each prayer granting a new class-specific item. The item would somehow need to fit in with the character's build if possible, i.e. the god's making the character more powerful.Yeah each act is a good time I think. I'll have to think a bit more on how to dristrubute them.
I think that maybe 1 skill should be chosen by the player, to at least allow a little control over the build & the rest then random. So go chosen skill @ 20 & 3 @ 15. Otherwise I would say 4@15 for more skill variety.OK, that's a good idea then. Which of the 2 skill set ideas is best? 3@20 or 4@15?
I'll take the chippies as long as they are BBQ flavour :lol:You don't want the lovely PGem (well at least if you win I won't have to cube it from chippies...)
For prizes, I suggest everyone will send a stash with 3 or 5 best items. Otherwise the prize stash will be full of trash.
Do I understand good, that character should place points only to prereqs and choosed skills asap, and he can place skill points in other skills after maxing the random ones? There can be a lot of difference between viability of the characters. But meh. I like 4/15 idea more.
I like random tourneys (random first letter character name? ) and maybe I can give this a try after my own tourney will finish.
Maybe the 10 best. So more choice.Originally Posted by Hrus
Y. I was thinking of letting people put (a number, 5 or 10 maybe) of points where ever they like as soon as they have at least 1 point in all chosen skills and pre-reqs (or, when they have saved up enough points for the skills and the pre-reqs, if they can't put points there yet due to lvl reqs).Originally Posted by Hrus
If a skill has a level requirement, you must put a point into each pre-req as soon as possible. All randomly chosen skills must always be within 2 points of each other (ie you can have one at 1 and one at 3) subject to level requirements. When you reach the level requirement of a skill, you must increase it's level to be within 2 points of your others as soon as possible.
@Tasdaz: I think the 1/20 chosen by player 3/15 random is a good idea. Chose the skill before, or after you get the random ones? After might make more of the characters viable.
For the items that cannot be gambled:
Keep all that you find. Everyone must send 10 in asap. After that, send them in at the end of each act, and you'll get that many back ramdomly, but you can chose what type you get. You can only chose types that you can use. (No sending in cheap barb helms and asking for expensive staves!) In effect, you are selling the items and gambling back new ones.
I'll hunt for some to add to these as well.
This is the list of items that can be gambled: http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/basics/gambling.shtml
AFAICT the items that can't be gambled it this:
All things that can have staff mods except assassin claws.
Pally shields.
Can't gamble 'zon javs and bows also.
It'll be 4 random skills to take to 15, but these will be chosen from only two skill trees (so there is less chance that a skill requiring synergys will be picked without a synergy).
I'll post these finalised rules in another thread, and you can sign up in that thread.
