The whole ladder thing is a competition, and those players useing mh, bots, ect. do have an unfair advantage.Originally Posted by bladesyz
Maybe, but that only pertains to those hearty, unusual men and women who are going to be running the ladder 24/7 for the next few months. And even then, most of them scoff at the idea of needing MH to tele to the throne. Scoff!Originally Posted by Arutha
What's more, almost all the serious ladder runners will probably dclone hunt for a nice xp boosting anni. Is it cheating to use 3rd party software to find out the IP of the game you are in? I can never tell these things, it's all so dreadfully confusing.
how can you be a serious ladder runner when you have to use a 3rd party cheat program to help you?.Originally Posted by ArcOlixter
what you should have said, is, 'all the serious ladder cheaters.'
now, thats not at all confusing, is it!.
as a side note.
i became a member of these forums, because i read in the rules, that cheaters/hack users .. etc, were not welcome here.
yet i see that there are more and more posts by members who admit that they cheat. yet the moderators do absolutly nothing about it.
if these forums allow cheaters to post and brag then i think it is time i found a new d2 home, one that does not tolerate cheaters.
however, if these forums are for legit gamers, then moderators please do your job.

Hacks and Cheats are 3rd party programs that allow you to alter the way a player interacts with a game. This includes, but not restricted to Maphack and Pindlebot. We do not support the use of these. You may not ask for help in creating a hack/cheat, a link to where you can find one, provide a link to where people can download one. However, the morality of using these programs is sometimes discussed and we allow these [within reason], unless it violates any other rule.
Advertising gold/item farming and any sale of in-game items for real world currency is strictly forbidden. Linking to these services and their affiliates is also prohibited.
In the trading forums we do not allow people using trade hacks or Pindlebot and then peddling their wares on the forums. If using the trading forums you should make sure you are familiar with the Terms and Conditions of the RPGTraders.Net as they apply to the forums also.
Here's my view on MH. I've been playing D2 for 5 years on and off. I dont' find it fun in the least to wander around a dungeon trying to find the right door on a run. It's not a run. It's a slow meander to find your way to the real meat. MH does nothing 'hack' wise besides the name. It just shows you where to go -.- After 5 years of exploring, I've explored enough. Let me see where I should go for once.
Just to throw in my two cents on maphack...
I've been playing this game since the beta, and for the first year or two of playing I did not want to use maphack. I enjoyed finding new places and roaming around aimlessly. Maphack simply wouldn't have been helpful. Now it's five years later. "Exploration" is no longer a draw in this game (and to be honest, compared to games like Everquest, Diablo really doesn't have a lot of exploration going on in the first place). What draws me to this game even after having played it on and off for five years is character builds. I enjoy trying new things and using different skills in imaginative ways.
Now, here's where I get to my point. Blizzard, with each new patch, has made this game increasingly item-dependent. Not everyone has the luxury of playing 4+ hours a day (or the knowledge of how to build MF builds) to find lots of good items. After Blizz increased hell's difficulty and introduces 3 or 4 runeword items that basically made nearly every unique in the game look like trash, you NEEDED good items to do reasonably well in hell (unless you're a very experienced sorceress or summon necro, perhaps).
Enter maphack. I actually don't use maphack because I don't know where to get it, am too lazy to find out, and am paranoid of downloading some crazy program that screws with my computer (yep, I am computer illiterate). HOWEVER, I can tell you right now I'd rather the maps just be revealed to me all the time. I restarted after a year long hiatus from the game, and like a LOT of people i've talked to, I had no account thanks to Blizzard deactivating them for inactivity. I'm restarting from scratch... do I want to do a thousand slow meph runs to get items and trade for what I want to try a new bladesin or fireball paladin class? No, heck no I don't. I'd rather have the map revealed to me (or better yet I'd rather just have my old accounts, but such is life).
Now, after saying all this, I realize maphack can be abused, especially in PvP - when it comes to PvP, obviously maphack gives an immediate advantage to one person. Same with people who want to be on the top of ladder - maphack is going to take any kind of competition out of that.
But in terms of PvM, come on... some of you hate maphack users for having an advantage, and yet create MF-specific builds with their stats and skills and items planned out, and farm items like it's a business. Is that really all that different? People who do that (including myself) are basically using every possible imbalance and nuance in the game to beef up a character enough to get what they want, instead of just taking a laissez-faire approach to the game and making some random character and killing whatever monsters they come across. Take note, I'm NOT saying this is bad, I'm saying that I feel like it's slightly ironic to treat the game in this way and then see maphacking as some kind of fundamentally different action.
When I see a guy using 5 years of Diablo knowledge to make a hammerdin or meteorb sorc with skills perfectly mapped out and exactly the right items to have a mixture of damage reduction and good resists, with a holy freeze merc that has high life steal, guess what - I don't feel any different playing in a game with him than I do with a maphack user. I don't mind either of them, but I don't feel like one is "tainting" my "legitimate" D2 experience more than the other.
Anyway, rant is over, hopefully I didn't offend anyone, just sharing my opinion. Thanks for wading through all that![]()
Ok here is another point on maphack specifically, we (at this point) do not ban people for using it, posting pics of it (however the trade mods are more likely to ban if maphack is used in conjunction with offered trades, or items offered for trade were gained with the use of maphack).
Nor do we ban for discussion in the moral issue of MH and general cheat use/
We will and with no warning necessary ban for:
Asking for/where to get maphack.
Providing links to where it can be gotten from.
Posting posts that in any way push or promote its use.
We will also ban people for flaming people that ask for maphack, as flaming is not allowed.
As to other forms of hacks and cheats and bots, they are not allowed to be offered to anyone, nor linked to by anyone. Though moral discussion is allowed and watched over.
I thought the name of the game was to have fun?Originally Posted by Arutha
I say, do whatever makes you have fun. If you're tired of running the endless mazes all the time, and a little program shows you the maze and makes the game fun again, I say go for it.
Now, the caveat is this: your right for fun ends where someone else's right for fun begins.
The question then is, are maphack programs (excluding for the moment hacks that dupe, or lets you see other ppl's gears, or auto aim, and refer only to programs that lets you see the entire map) making YOUR game unfun?
If you answered yes, could you explain your answer?
Attn: Aragorn (or someone else who would know): What about single player character mods? Are those considered hacks, or just a way to test out characters, because I know a lot of people who shun hacks but will use the single player editors to test out a build. Thanks in advanced.

My knowledge (aside from ATMA) of those mods and wether or not they are allowed is limited.
