i work at a hotel ..and some woman came down to the desk and told me she called her credit card company and they said we charged her card for 150 dollars. she paid for her room with interac so she was pissed.
we never charged her card, but we did do a 150 pre-auth(for those who dont know all hotels do this. it doesnt charge your card it "holds funds". we do it to make sure the card exists and the funds are available). normally this isnt even suppose to appear on your cc statement and it dissappears after 7 days anyways, but for some reason it appeared as an actual charge.
so shes mouthing off going "they told me you're not allowed to charge my cc unless given permission" and thats when i tried to explain the difference between a pre-auth and an actual charge, but she was too stubborn and stupid to listen and started blabing on about how she use to work in a hotel before and was an accountant.
so she starts demanding we give her 150 dollar refund and i refuse to and her face starts going red and starts yelling at me. ended up having to call her credit card company, who told me they couldnt do anything, i called the bank that hotel is with which confirmed we never charged her card. i checked the night audit sheets that confirmed we never charged
her stupid card.
she still has to wait a few days to get her money released, but i made sure at the end of it to tell her it was her cc company that made the mistake, not us. she gave me a bad look and walked away.
