    Question about "upped" items and "re-rolling" charms

    I read in the strategy forums about "upped" items. What exactly are these items? and what needs to be done in order to up them?

    Also how exactly do I re-roll a charm or a jewel?

    Any info you can give is much appreciated.

    upped items means you upgrade an item to the next lvl. So you can magefists gauntlets to magefists battle gauntlets. The only difference is a defence boost. You can find all the forumlas on the Arreat Summit.

    You can reroll charms and jewels with 3 pgems in your cube.

    you can also get the recipes from:
    diabloii.net

    left hand side click on horadric cube
    once that page loads, click on the top right "1.10 beta recipes"... the tempering recipes don't work, but all the others seem to work and the upgrading from normal to exceptional and things are correct.

    i upped my ribcracker staff (exceptional) which gave me 70-200 damage or something to it's elite version (ladder only recipe), and now it does like 200 or 300 to 400 or 500. it increased the damage enough to make it worth the pul and lum rune and the p.emerald.

    upping and re-rolling is done using the H.Cube

    put the required items in the cube, press the button, and it does it's things. 3 perfect gems (or a perfect skull) and any charm will change the charms stats. i do this a lot with hell cow GCs to get the +1 skills with a chance on getting 36-40 life or other mods.

    Just make sure that when you "up" an item, you have the necessary preqs to use it.

    before you go wasting gems on jewels, they're probably not worth rerolling. you'll get a better return on your investment rolling grand charms for skillers. but keep in mind they have to come from a high enough lvl monster to potentially turn into one.

    you can also reroll rare jewels (yellow ones) by putting 6 pskulls and the jewel in the cube and hitting transmute. This will give you a new jewel with it's ilvl set to 2/3 * [old_ilvl + clvl].

    clvl = character level
    ilvl = internal (invisible except with atma or a cheat) level of the jewel.
    when a jewel spawns, it's ilvl is set to the mlvl of the monster/chest that created it.

    This formula is useful for trying to get low level dueler jewels.

    there's also another formula to reroll rares, but it costs an soj, so i won't even mention it.

    um...that formula should be

    ilvl = max[40, int(.4*old_ilvl) + int(.4*clvl)]

    where the int() means round down and max[] means pick whichever is larger. The one i stated was for the soj recipe, but it also needed to be formatted as the above one due to rounding issues.
