i have a zealot atm who uses the fanat aura with max zeal, holy shield, etc...
well recently i went into a trade game and a pally with the convicion aura shows up which made me curious...
how does conviction work?
i know it reduces the magic resistants of monsters, but what about monsters immune?
interested in making a pally using conviction. probably thinking of using charge or vengeance along with conviction.
thx for the feedback![]()
Conviction lowers resists and defense by %'s depending on the skills level.
It can also break immunities. Monsters with a resist over 100% are considered immune. Conviction lowers the resists of monsters by the number stated, but on numbers higher than 100% it only works with 1/5 of the number stated.
In short, this means:
If you have a conviction that reduces resists with 50%:
An enemy with a resistance of 75% will end up with 25%.
An enemy with 0% would end up with -50%
An enemy with 110% would end up with 100% (still immune)
The sort of build you are talking about is called an "Avenger", guides are found in the paladin forum, but here's one for you

Avengers are a very strong build. (In fact even rival the Hammerdins -although they cant kill multiple targets at the same time they are excellent versus single strong monsters.)
They have the added bonus of having naturally high resistnaces.
Since Resist fire , cold and lightning are synergies of Vengence, u also get the passive max to each resistance tree.
so what ur saying is that guys that have over 100% basically will still basically be immune? is there a site that tells which monster actually has more then 100% resistance?
how would u get past those enemies? but i guess every build has its disadvantages to some sort of monster.
thx for the build, i'll surely follow it as it looks interesting![]()
In hell difficulty most monsters have 1 element of immunity, and bosses can gain an extra immunity or 2 based off their "enchantments" (ie cold enchanted bosses gain some percent resistance to cold; can push them above 100% res.)Originally Posted by gorash
by using a different element. I have never seen a tri-elemental immune monster (i think ive seen a PI/xI/yI before though) so an avenger (one who uses vengence with conviction) will have at least 1 element that will damage as well as his physical damage. Itll take 3x longer than a nonimmune.
Didnt I say you can break immunities? It just requires a higher -%res from your side. This does not only have to come from skills. Rainbow Facet jewels all provide somewhere between -3% to -5% resistance to an element. Many items do the same. Best example could perhaps be Deaths Web (necro wand) which gives -40% to -50% to enemy poison resistance. That helps quite a bit too. Necromancers can also use the Lower resist curse to break immunities. Sorcs have Cold Mastery for coldimmunes.Originally Posted by gorash
(well, even though its possible to break immunities for every char, necros, sorcs and pallys are those who have the skills best suited for it)

Even a Paladins conviction aura will never break all cold immune monsters. They will likely break most fire and lightning ones and some cold immunes, but not all.
Gaza - How is your avenger progress. I opted for a zealot instead but it fun nevertheless. Be intresting as i might make a venger for my next char.
Do you deal with mobs one by one like a conc barb or is there something like for crowd control?
yea, i need to know this info too hehe

The only down side is that you have to attack mobs one on one - this is the only downside. I use my one purely for Hell Ball running since he really excels at Boss slaying.
Even if you are in a room tightly packed with lots of mobs he can survive easily I have 90% resistances for cold, fire , lightning and 75 for poison , so even the mighty gloams dont do anything to me. Plus with holy sheild normal monsters dont hit too often either.
I think they are a really good build, I find they shine in group work though, sors love conviciton, it makes their spells do double damage, also you can break many immunities for them. ( with the exception of some hard core cold ones, and a few fire ones) Most lightning ones are broken though.
The only drawbacks are though - attacking mobs one on one, its very slow going till level 40 unless u have a 2nd account or a friend with an enchantress to boost your damage early on.
