    I have a defiance aura merc running after my gold find barb. My question is:

    How is his aura activated?

    Sometimes it takes longer. Could I do anything to speed up the proces?

    awesome guide, but wouldn't Nightwing helm be better for act 3 merc?

    I have a question about merc stats when you hire them in which difficulty and at which level.

    My sorc has an Act 2 Holy Freeze merc which I hired at lvl 20-30 with this gear and hardly ever dies. Only dies by iron maiden and a rare mass hydra summon.

    Eth Infinity
    Eth Fort/COH
    Eth Andys

    So its a pretty beefy merc...

    But on my Amazon I hired an Act 2 Defiance merc at lvl 84 or so with the same gear and it constantly dies. I always see his health drop down and that is never the case for my sorc merc.

    Is the big difference the holy freeze and the defiance? Or is the whole thing about which level you buy them at and which mode you buy them at has no effect just wrong?

    Does Attack Rating apply to mercs?

    I'm trying to decide between 2 helms for my Act2 merc (don't even remember what type he is). They are pretty much the same for most stats. The main difference is:

    Helm -
    5% bonus to Attack Rating
    89% bonus to AR (based on char lvl)
    Defense: 26

    Shako -
    10% chance to case level 3 nova when struck
    Defense: 232

    I'm pretty sure AR conuts for mercs, I just don know which is better Straight AR or % Ar. Equip it on yours to see if gives reasonable boost.

    There's no way to see what your merc's AR is, is there? I guess I could go in with just my merc (I'm a wind druid with a lot of meat shields) and just see how he does by himself, but that's going to be hard to tell if it makes a difference.

    planning my merc...

    Since it doesn't matter what level they're hired, only from what difficulty, it would be easiest to lvl up the character and then just hire them later, correct? And, since I'm getting an HF merc, I can only get them in nm anyway.... (although I thought that if you rushed and hired them before they got their skill, they would never get it. Is that so?)

    I was looking for more input on what items to get, but I didn't find it in this guide, so I looked it up. (assume all eth'd)

    Weapon:
    Great Poleaxe or Thresher or Giant Thresher Infinity
    (because the ever popular C/v and C/a lose to them in every aspect - unless someone can prove me wrong)

    possible against bosses? hone sundan /w 2ber & 40ed/15ias jewel

    Armor:
    Fortitude makes sense. 300%dmg, 200%def + 115%def spell, life, enough resist to max.

    Why is CoH one of the best armor options at all?
    CoH only gives 70% bonus defense, and isn't +65 resist overkill? Okay 8% damage resist. +2 to Jab is alright, but more freeze doesn't slow more. Does the lifesteal make up for all of that??

    What about upped shaftstop? at 2.3k+ def and 30%dr, would it be even better than fortitude against physical? (but not elemental, but u can get resist from helm) Plus, you can socket it with an um or something else.

    Helm:
    Andy's Visage - lifesteal, atk speed, Str to put that fortitude on some heavy armor, but -fire sucks
    Vamp gaze - lifesteal, damage reduction
    Crown of Ages - dam reduc, enough resist to max by itself, 2 sockets

    Useful socketables:
    40ed/15ias jewel
    um - resist all
    ber - dam reduc

    questionable (what do you think?):
    jah - life
    cham - not frozen <- is this an issue for lifestealing to stay alive?


    so I should pick some combination of armor helm that gives def, dam reduc, lifesteal, and ~30 resist all, yeah?

    so then the only real options to get it all are:
    fort & vamp(40ed/15ias) - already has everything, so use the expensive jewel
    shaftstop(um) & vamp (um)
    shaftstop(um) & andy (um/ral)

    why not:
    CoA: forces CoH for lifesteal -> low defense, resist overkill. Not worth putting puls in sockets

    am I right? missing something? totally off track?

    i have an act 3 light merc(lvl 86) with that equip:

    shacko sok with p amethist(+12 str)
    lawbringer(for aura)
    vipermagi
    and
    spirit monarch

    how can he equip monarch?

    simple

    equip in this order:

    shacko,law bringer,duriel shell(that will allow to reach the desired str),then the spirit monarch...then switch duriel with vipermagi...the shield will be still equipped and still provides bonuses.

    he works pretty fine for now,his lighting deal nice(piercing)damage.

    i love him

    maybe i will switch law with a spirit sword...should i do that?

    Interesting. Though I was looking more along the lines of equip for my merc. :P And you didn't mention Werewolf melee druids, or maybe I skipped it. :O I assume it'd be Might Merc too, or Holy Freeze.
