How does ED and max damage work in LLD? Like, does the ED from the jewel get applied to the base damage of the weapon, and does the max damage also get applied to the base damage of the weapon?
For example:
A pike has say base max of 100 (for round figures), and 200 with it's inherent damage modifiers.
Would a 20 ED jewel add 20 to the maximum damage, or 40?
Would a 9 max jewel add 9 to the damage, or 18 (IE, it gets added to the base BEFORE the damage modifiers on the weapon are applied).
Ack! So confusing!
If all this information is posted some place please just reply with the link rather than going into a lengthy description (I don't want to use up anyone's time!).
ED jewels in weapon multiply base (100 here, so adds 20 to max and something to min- works as ED from magic affixes in weapon)
ED jewels outside weapon multiple total max and min dmg (here will add 40 to char's listed max dmg and something to listed min dmg)
max jewels everywhere always add to the weapon max dmg (here will add 9 to weapon dmg, same as the pike had 209 dmg - this is calculated before ED, str modifiers)
ED/max jewels in weapon work as above, but ED and max combine (increase the base and add to max)
ED/max jewels outside the weapon add to max and multiply weapon's min dmg
ED/min jewels outside the weapon add to min and multiply weapon's max dmg
So let me clarify what you just said...
An ED jewel inside of a weapon will work with the base damage of the weapon. An ED jewel OUTSIDE of a weapon will add it's ED to the total listed damage of the weapon? Or is it the total listed damage of the 'normal attack' for the character (in the character screen)?
Whereas for max damage jewels, they add to the total listed damage of the weapon?
If that's the case, why is it that people prefer using max over ED? Is it because they would normally add more damage than a 20 ED jewel (some weapons have pathetically low damage).
In other words, it would be more beneficial to use ED jewels for a heavy hitting weapon (such as that pike), than if you were to use max jewels for it. But with weaker damage weapons (such as cleglaw's sword), max would be the better choice. Am I correct?
correct. now try making a robo eth superior pike with 20/9 jewels heh hehOriginally Posted by Relativity
ED outside weapon:
when you get high ED from skills, max dmg jewels add more
when you get low ED from skills, ED jewels better (for low lvl this is the case with mercs if you dont have ED aura (telenec and merc nec))
For palas max add more dmg then ED, thats why they use max jewels
So basically there are 3 cases when you use ED jewels:
1. making robo weapons with good base (eth pike base is 94, 20ED jewel = + 18,8 to max), same with lances, martels and such (lvl 25-26, at 27 Insight or Honor got more ED)
2. socketing good dmg unque/set/rare/magic weapon (20 ED in eth bonesnap for example). Here best choice is 20ED 15+ max jewel (otherwise Hel rune)
3. making ED armors for mercs
In other cases better to use max dmg jewels
Alright, I think I understand, thanks you two.
