I am looking for the best staff you can get with 2 sockets to use runeword leaf in. I am a hydra/fireball sorc. Obviously I want hydra and fireball, but whats the max number of bonus skills and how many +to skill can u get on a staff. Also can staffs generate with + to sorc skills?
Thanks,
JRyan :innocent:
What you would want to look for would be a 2 socket staff with +3 to hydra, +3 to fireball and +3 to fire mastery to make the leaf out of.
cool,
i didnt know u could get all of those without making it magical.
Thanks,
JRyan
Class Specific types can have up to 3 skills with +3 on em... not just staff... orbs, scepters, shrunken heads, claws... and so on.Originally Posted by jryan
Can that staff be shopped or do you need to find it?Originally Posted by Miladys-Knight

Its 3 staffmods of up to +3 per skill. based on a set of random [100] rolls. the odds are stacked against the 3/3/3 staffmods so don't expect them even though they are possible. Your best bet to get 3/3/3 is to imbue at high clvl since clvl is added to the random when imbued.
You can only go down 2 tiers and up 1 teir from your base staffmod tier.
Thus 1-4, 2-5, 3-6 can be dropped fire ball is a tier 3 hydra is a tier 6 and fire mastery is a tier 6 you need a base tier of 5 for your staff. all staffs in Hell will be base tier 5.![]()
Staffmod tiers are based on ilvl.
@melianor quick answer no, long answer the fire mastery is a tier 6 staffmod thus you need a base tier of tier 5 which is ilvl 40+ IIRC (I have to check my guide in the SPF), since you can only shop upto ilvl 24, you won't be able to buy a high enough ilvl for fire mastery, the highest staffmod you can buy is skills in the 24 clvl range but they only have a 10% chance of showing up since they have to get the +1 staffmod tier to show up. IE you have to find such a staff.
I hope that helps, you can find such a staff but it will have to be found and will be hard to get the 2 sockets since the max socket will be higher on the staff you find it on. You have to use the socketing recipe, good luck.
Thx Uzziah, as usual very concise input. Well this sounds to me, as if its very very very unluckily to stumble upon such a staff....Originally Posted by Uzziah

But after the imbue you can't make leaf, right? The item will then be magical and won't support runewords (you can't imbue socketed items anyway). So the mods can be achieved but not the runeword... ?Originally Posted by Uzziah
yes after an imbue the item is a rare that can only have 2 sockets if it has the mechanics prefix. also since it has prefixes it can not have a runeword placed in it.
the staffmods are achievable in a white item but the chances are very small.
its a 9% chance of 3 mods 91-100 gives it 3 mods.
then its a 9% chance for each of those to get +3 91-100 gives +3
thats 0.09*0.09*0.09*0.09 = 0.00006561
then we factor in the chance of getting the +1 tier for fire mastery and hydra each so
0.09*0.09*0.09*0.09*0.10*0.10 = 0.0000006561
then the chance for the -2 tier for the fireball which is 10%
and then the 1/6 chance for any of the tier to land on the desired skills the fire mastery will be 1/5 since hydra would have already been picked (or vice versa)
so in total we have:
0.09*0.09*0.09*0.09*0.1*0.1*0.1*(1/6)*(1/6)*(1/5) = 3.645*10^-10
That's less then the chance of a Hell cow dropping a zod IIRC and even less considering that you have to have a staff drop to get it in the right item for runewording. IE 1 in 2,736,726,875 staves will drop with those mods, good luck.
like I said doable but not really, good luck getting that on a white item drop.
Getting 3/3/3 in any set is only a 0.09^4 = 0.00006561 chance which isn't too bad.
Thanks for all the info!
But I am considering instead rune word SILENCE.
With mf, 75 resist, and +3 all skills u cant go wrong.
And about ten times easier to find a good staff and not have to worry about finding the correct amount of sockets because its 6 soc runeword.
Or I considered Heart of the Oak runeword. 4 soc runeword.
So know I will be ok if i find my staff with 2,4,or 6 sockets.
Hurray!!!Hurray!!!hurray!!!
Thanks,
