    Who like thorns?

I'm just starting to play around with paladins and it seems like as long as you have holy shield, thorns would be a great aura to use in PvP. Or anywhere for that matter.

Does it not work in pvp? It's not really mentioned in any of the build guides.

....If you have Holy Shield, you have less of a chance of getting hit... making Thorns less effective. And no, it doesn't really work for PvP... by the time the reflected damage was enough to kill your opponent, you'd be long dead.

Hmmm. I dont believe there is any possible way to cancel out enough damage thats directed at you to make thorns effective. Hmmm. Interesting. Im just racking my brain. And maybe if you could maximize your damage reduction and send damage to mana....but this seems impossible with a paladin. Perhaps a certian build of sorceress could achieve somethign like this. Energy shield with enough damage to mana and dr, but then ud need something that gave you thorns. In short though....it doesnt seem possible or effective to use thorns in pvp.

I had a lvl 82 thorns paly with revives out in the hell cows last night. The level of thorns was actually around 28-30. The cows would take dmg and heal take dmg and heal. Maybe a 1/7 of their health was gone because of thorns. They would just heal it back though. I have had success however in a single player game but if you get the party play going its very difficult.

I think Blizz did a good job with the other skills and synergies but it seems they left thorns and conversion behind.

I would agree. I know conversion can be used in some builds but when you look at its overall effectiveness it really doesnt ammount to much but a prereq.

Too many people bash on thorns. Thorns is actually an EXCELLENT PvP skill if you only vs Melee. The reason it isn't used is becuase it's only good against melee, so people choose more versatile builds, anyone who has used it however, which is not many, would know that it gets to insane percentages. For PvM it can easily get to return 1210% of the damage you take, and although the PvP penalty is quite large at 1/10th, that still means that you return 121% of the damage you take. It's pretty hard for any melee character to kill you when you return that much, whilst dealing you're own. Like I said though, it's not really versatile enough, but it's still dam fun to use if you like left-field builds or have created every other pally 12951629 times like myself.

121% damage return after the penalty? Wow thats good!!!!!!
Then take into account damage reduction gear. Oh thats bad.

One way it would work is they hit you for say 200 dmg.
With your DR gear you take 100 of it, and thus reflect 121
back at him which his DR gear nulifies another 50%. Now
the dmg he takes is only 60. He hits you for 100 and takes
    60.

It really doesnt work as good as it sounds.
