In setting out my characters - I've always worried about the monster immunities particularly those in hell.
I have a Telefroster in act 1 hell at the moment using please don't laugh (I haven't found anything better which I could equip and actually hit with) - the Skewer of Krintz for its ITD as I'm 76 level and my chance to hit is miserable and its (again please don't laugh) fast (for me) attack speed and Crushflange to kill Act bosses (managed to kill Baal in NM in players 5 with it). I am hoping to replace it with a "black" runeword if I can find something to socket and an Io rune.
Anyway, I came across my first cold, lightning and physical immune unique and struggled! I switched to Crushflange and killed him (lousy to hit but with zeal you eventually got the job done). I assume it was me rather than my Merc doing the damage.
So my question is really is crushing blow effectively a type of damage which can not be effected by immunities (I don't know why but I had assumed immune to physical stopped it)?
If so it would make more melee characters viable than I previously thought. Eg a were druid or a brabarian doesn't need to worry about physical immunes provided they have a weapon with CB on switch? It would seem to be a better option than having a gemmed weapon or high elemental damage weapon on switch?
I know that CB doesn't scale in mutliplayer games but I'm playing hell in players 1 so its ok for me at least.
Thanks in advance for your views.
2 Io runes to start you off for the price of an email.![]()
Crushing Blow is physical damage and thus PIs are immune to it's effect.
Open Wounds does work on PIs though, it's % chance to apply it's effect triggers whenever you deal damage to the monster by use of your weapon (melee or ranged...spells don't work). Note: the damage can be as low as 1. If you have high physical damage and lightning damage and a single 1-2 cold damage small charm, you will be able to inflict a bleeding wound on a PI/LI monster.
What version are you playing btw? No triple immunes can spawn in 1.10 and some effects and most skills have changed in 1.10.
Are you sure it had three immunities? I thought that was impossible. Are you playing an older version of the game?Originally Posted by Day

Arrgh, when will I learn to READ all the replies before answering. I feel like an :bonk: .
Crushing blow is physical damage. It takes off a percentage of a monster's current life (25% for melee attacks on normal monsters). Physical resistance will reduce that percentage. So a normal monster with 50% physical resistance will lose 12.5% of its life to a crushing blow. With 80% PR, it will lose 5% of it life. With 100% PR it will take no damage.
Effects that reduce physical resistance (like Amp Damage or Decrepify) can cause monsters to take the full damage of a crushing blow, but they will never take more than the 25% (or the reduced figures for missile attacks and special monsters).

I have heard that CB can momentarily "break" PI in 1.10, but that was back when the beta was still being tested. Still, I wouldn't be surprised since many features from 1.07 were revived in 1.10 and CB definitely pierced PI in that version. You could also find triple immunes with fair regularity and unique items were scarce... say, what version did you say you were playing???
Still, I'm betting the effect is greatly reduced as Icebird suggests, if it works at all. My BF 'sin killed PIs much more slowly than regular monsters and a lot of her damage came from CB.
Many thanks for all the comments.
I'm playing 1.10 in single player.
I thought I had a triple immune (in fact I thought I'd had a couple in the Mausoleum in Act 1) but if its truly impossible I must be mistaken -
I know I had nothing that worked neither Lightning or Cold (my physical damage is pathetic) but providing I can kill the pack I am usually ok with dual (lightning and cold) immunes as my Act 2 defiance Merc has good physical damage but for these particular uniques (by uniques I mean the guys that are named and have minions) that didn't work either. The comments make me wonder if it was stone skin instead of physical immune (my merc struggles with those) but I really don't think so?
Icebird's comment is very interesting as my Merc (has for me a decent weapon) the unique bill with the chance to cast decrepify (Black Leach Bill?) -I think the reason why Crushflange worked was because the immunity had been broken by decrepify.
Maybe I need to pay more attention and read the descriptions more carefully!!
In any event CB is not the answer to physical immunity (but something with Amp Damage or Decripify might be?). Shame really I thought I might be on to something to help my Druid back to trying to make fire claws or rabies work). Even if triple immunes aren't possible dual immunes definitley are so you seem to need three kinds of damage for hell?
Trowoaclan - thanks for the very kind offer - but I'm trying to play self found - I've been playing since D2 was released and indeed played the original game but have never cleared hell (originally I was trying to get through playing HC without twinking but I'm not good enough and so I am back on SC and self-found!). The paladin is my best attempt to date with 3 deaths so far. If I can't beat the game soon - I'll maybe come back to you on your offer. Again thanks.
either its the unique bill and you're confused about its mods, or its the reapers toll and confused about its name
