merc exp bug?

Sorry if this has been brought up before.

I'm playing with my skelemance in act 1 nm with a lvl 40 holy freeze merc from act 2. I go to equip him, and decide to check up on how his exp is doing. It hasn't changed at all. I go let him kill a few things, but it still doesn't go up. Is this just a display bug or is my merc really getting no exp?

BTW: I don't know if it matters, but I'm lvl 40 too.

Your solution can be found right there. It's not a bug, but how the mercenary works. Except on the rare occation that you can buy a merc that has a higher level (if that's even possible anymore) that will be the only reason to ever have a merc at a higher level than yourself. Once you level to 41, he will gain experience as normal until he also gets to 41. So, don't be worried, it happens to everyone. Happy gaming!
