The Svennis scandal

Don't know if you've heard about the "scandal" with the English national football (soccer) coach, Sven-Göran Eriksson.

Well basically he did a "Clinton" with a female co-worker, and now he might have to leave his job. Not so much because he did it, but because at first he lied about it, and said he didn't do it.

I can see that it's an quite unfortunate thing to have done, but I really think this is a private matter between him and the co-worker, and, well, the other guy who has been with her as well. Sven-Göran is even a single guy currently, so it's not like he's cheating.

It's just that I don't really see why it matters to the public, what he did with his coworkers, as long as it wasn't some illegal.

I totally agree.

This far I've made a point out of not learning the first thing about Svennis' private life. I've not been able to dodge the knowledge that he had some sort of love triangle going with Ulrika Jonsson and that Nancy chick, but that's all. I really don't care and I can't for the life of me understand why people want him fired because he sleeps around.

Why are people so obsessed with his lovelife? Any sane person who's seen a picture of that butt-ugly guy will keep sex and Svennis in non-connected compartments in their minds. I sure as hell don't want to think about it.

Is this one of those English things that are impossible for outsiders to understand?

Kind of, I obviously can't comment on other countries but the English Football managers job is HUGE
And that comes with a big microscope hanging over your head with every move you make also his the first foriegn manager so he is under even more scrutiny with some saying he doesn't have the passion of what an English manager would have. You should have seen all the flags on peoples cars even a month before Euro 2004.Linky

It isn't rare for the Manager to be sacked for non Football matters.

Glenn Hoddle caused a deal of controversy during his career. He was derided by the national press for his insistence on using faith healer Eileen Drewery to guide his teams. In 1999 he was sacked as England manager after making public comments about disabled people that were deemed inappropriate and offensive.

Chief executive Mark Palios quit after claims the FA tried to keep his affair with a secretary quiet by exposing Eriksson's links with the same woman.

However, the Swede has said since that he has never confirmed nor denied the affair - suggesting that his "nonsense" description merely referred to his personal life being dragged into the public domain.

So the central question appears to be whether Eriksson lied to his bosses and exposed them when they were forced to issue a retraction to their initial denial of the story.

An independent lawyer will lead the inquiry which starts on Monday, with Eriksson due to give his evidence on Tuesday.

The lawyer will give his observations to the 12-man FA board on Thursday, leaving Eriksson's future in their hands.

The thing is we have a friendly in two weeks and then World Cup Qualifiers in a months time so if Sven was to be sacked it wouldn't be great timing.

It doesnt matter what he did. He lied about it.


Why did Clinton get in so much trouble over the Monica thing? Not because of the affair, but because he LIED.

If your stupid enough to think you can get away with lying to those who support you, then you dont desereve to have supporters.
