I haven't asked much out of my computer. The most demanding thing it's ever done is run counter-strike. It has a 2.53 ghz processor, 256 MB ram, and a nice flatscreen monitor. It has served me well so far.
But I was given SWG (Star Wars Galaxies) by a couple of my buddies for my birthday and now it seems I can't get past that nasty "Direct3D could not be initialized" error. So I delved deep into my comp specs and found my video card, which happens to be:
32MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra
Is there any, any possible way I can get SWG to work with that card? If so how, and if not, what's a cheap card I can get that will perform well for SWG? Need help!
edit: nevermind....did you check if your Directx is updated?
Correct me if I'm Wrong but I dont think that 32mb's is gonna cut it.
Many cards might seem like they can't cut it, but amazingly they'll run...my old Geforce 3 ran C&C Generals Zero Hour just fine...now if he wants it to look good and run smooth..thats different...
Yeah, but a Geforce 3 has Pixel and Vertex shaders (which is directx 8). Even the Geforce 4 mx line doesn't. I would say get either a Geforce 4 ti 4200 if you can get one cheap or some ATI card that is Directx 9 compliant.
OK, I'm looking at this:

and possibly another 512 ram. Which means I'm going to have to open up my comp to see if it has the slots for more ram. Wish me luck.
ok..bad example..Originally Posted by Conan_the_Destroyer
the 9200 line is bleh....but if thats all you can afford then...
I run all kinds of crap on my GeForce 3. Games I've run -- Halo, Planetside, Call of Duty, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Need for Speed Underground
Aye, especially the SE edition...if you're really strapped for cash then that will have to do...if not...try going for ATI 9600 Pro or XT.Originally Posted by mysnistaken
