The dmg gets more than doubled, the average physical resist for a typical hell monster is about 33%. Normally, you'd do 67% of your dmg, but with Amp, you do 167%. That's 2.5 times as much.
Against monsters with 50% physical resist you do 3 times as much, and finally, against Gloams (90% physical res) a staggering 11 times.
It also breaks all natural PI monsters, and most PI (Super)Uniques.

3)Using an atma's ammy with GSA will give you the same bonus to damage, with a better chance of triggering....
More than double the chance, but the range and length of the Amp curse is almost halved. (2.6 yards vs 4.6, 11 seconds vs 20)

6)WWS has lower requirements, letting you boost your dexterity or vitality rather than spending all those points into strength.
And that is a very important point when dealing with an Upgraded GSA. It takes 45 more strength to wield an Hydra Bow than to equip a Diamond Bow.
Of course, you can use charms and your equipment to provide part of that requirement, but it still takes away precious enhanced dmg and/or life.

I love maths, it's such an important part of the game

As a hardcore player, i'll take UWWS over UGSA any day strictly due to the +40 resist all... though the lower stat reqs factor into this as well (54 fewer stats for a diamond bow = 162 life). The argument was a lot more in favor of WWS when the GSA paused in mid-strafe for the fist of heavens. I think the line is blurred enough so that you should just pick whichever suits your style.

You should take the time to browse the forums and the strategy section of DII.net. You can read up on some different build ideas.

In the end, though... I personally think it's better and more fun to just play and experiment. That way, you'll find a build that is best suited to your style of play.

1)WWS sometimes takes a long time for amp to go off. This means in battles where you kill things pretty quickly, the amp damage really doesn't do much. I've found that amp isn't a huge bonus except for some bosses up through at least act3 hell, and even further with a good zon setup. Without amp, GSA does more damage.

2)Once amp goes off on WWS, the damage is doubled, making it do quite a bit more damage than GSA. Therefore, when fighting enemies with more hp, the WWS shines more. Multiplayer hell games really shows this to be true.

4)Using WWS gives you resists and a large amount of deadly strike, saving you equipment from resists, and skill points from critical strike.

5)Using GSA gives you a huge bonus to attack rating, saving you points from penetrate and the need to use gear to boost your AR.

6)WWS has lower requirements, letting you boost your dexterity or vitality rather than spending all those points into strength.

Overall, I prefer using the WWS more, for much the same reasons as Xiamet mentioned earlier. I play the game for fun, and like to be able to use the same equipment in all circumstances. I rarely ever use my weapon switch with any character, so having a bow I can use in all situations, which has both killing power and other useful stats(especially the resists, which I never have enough of) has better appeal to me. However, the GSA is a great bow, and has great benefits as well- I don't feel bad equipping either one on my zon.
Don't forget about the interruptions from the FoH casting. This can make many strafezons pull their hair out from frustration, did to me.

So many bows, so little time, part what, 10?

Bottom line is this...the bow is but one consideration; your stats, skill allotments and gear will ultimately decide how effective your zon will be. A good setup of your stats/skill/gears can take practically any bow and make it effective. It's what works for you.

Hey X, long time We are still comparing superlatives here. Zons have had (since LOD) an overwhelming number of great bows to play with. I think this was a makeup for classic, when unless you got the great rare Gothic, you sucked.

Oh, see I thought you'd never made an Amazon before... like you said.

Check out the builds in the strategy compendium then if you want to copy someone's build outright. There are dozens of different kinds of Amazon builds... pick one.
