Recently, I've been playing classic, and for once in a long time the game is actually enjoyable. But, wouldn't ya know it? As soon as I can start having fun again, everything screws up.
Here's the deal:
At first I tried to log on to battle.net, it kept giving me an error saying it could not properly identify my application version (which it has never done before).
When I DID managed to get on bnet, every time I tried to join or create a game, it would go to the loading screen, partially load, then I would hear the error beep, and it would stop.
So then I tried uninstalling the whole thing, and reinstalling again (this time I didn't bother with x-pac). Worked for a while.
Now, today, it gave me the same crap again, so I uninstalled... and now I can't reinstall because it says my comp doesn't have enough memory! (and it definately has more than enough, especially if I did it before).
Of course, this is probably the work of dozens of trojans and spywares on my computer (courtesy of my little brother's friends). Can anyone help me out?
pandasoft has a decent online virus scanner, then there's ad-aware to get rid of the pesky stuff...
Go to the blizzard support site, they have a method of installing (can't think of it off the top of my head) where you copy a couple files from the CD to the D2 folder after it's been installed, and also a few settings that need to be checked.
For not enough memory, use your task manager to see what's running and how much memory your computer is trying to use...
Mostly I recommend the blizzard support site.
Well, as of now, I'm more concerned about being able to install the damned thing in the first place. Every time I try to install it, it tells me I don't have enough memory. I know my memerory is running pretty low (about 2 gigs left), but it's more than enough to install just the multiplayer package (I even tried to see if this situation followed a reverse logic and attempted the full install, still the same goddamn message).
I'll check the support site, but I doubt they have anything on this.
EDIT: Checked the support site. They had nothing about that 'not enough memory' message. And I assure you that I have no other programs running (at least ones that I'm aware of). I cntrl-alt-delete and close ANYTHING that isn't the Explorer, and it still doesn't work.
did you scan for viruses?
Did you get ad-aware and run it?
Do both and dont worry abotu the game until you do, you obviously have some serious issues tht need to be addressed, or a hardware failure is lurking!
Perhaps some links would help. I already got a coolwebsearch-shredder, and that took care of a few notorious hijackers. Then again, as many as coolwebsearch makes, not all spywares and trojans come from them.Originally Posted by STINGER
Memory = RAM, not HDD space.
Open your task manager and look at how much is actually being used when you're trying to install.
Just google search "pandasoft" for an online virus scan and "ad-aware" for an ad/spyware killer.
Ok... I checked again, and this time I'll put it a bit more verbatim: it says there's not enough space on the disk. So, it's something awry with the space on the hard-drive to the best of my knowledge. I know I could clear up 6 gigs if I can get my little brother to get rid of all his video files...Originally Posted by MoUsE_WiZ
... In that case, just assume my 18 gig hard drive is now 12 gigs (stubborn bastard >< ).
Now... I've deleted just about everything I can... The only other heavy-memory game I have on this computer is Half-life, which takes up more than 500 megs, so deleting that won't do much good.
EDIT: Oh, and another thing. I once tried manually downloading the LOD patch, and what wound up happening is that I have a 0 byte application file stuck in place. I can do absolutely nothing with it: when I try to delete or move it, it says "Access denied: source file may be in use." And when I try to open it, it says it's not a valid win32 file. I've tried checking the task manager, and I still can't do anything with it, even if explorer is the only thing open.
Ok, I have an update.
It appears that, for some odd reason, my compute cannot install the file "D2CHAR.MPQ" from the disk. For what reason I do not know, because my Hard Drive has more than 2 gigs on it, and this file is only 255 megs. I even tried manually dragging it from the CD and onto the local disk; still won't work. It ALWAYS tells me I don't have enough space left.
Oh, and I already tried ad-aware. Managed to get rid of nearly 1000 suspiscious files. It's still doing me no good. And I tried searching for Pandasoft, and quite frankly, it doesn't help since I don't know german!!! ><:::

---> If you have less than 384, and are running Windows 2K/XP, then it is quite possible that Windows is unable to properly manage your page file and background support services and keep Diablo 2 running.

I dunno; to be perfectly honest, I know little to nothing about hardware. I'd assume it's enough, because I've ran Diablo II on this computer for about two years without a single problem. This is something very recent.Originally Posted by Riotbreaker
