So maybe I'm not as up to date with the lingo around these forums, but I am just that guy who has no idea what "pwn" or "1337" means. Someone take pity on me because sometimes I have to skip some peoples posts because thet are unreadable![]()
hmm, weird, I have played D2 for a long time online but I have no idea what these terms exactly mean. I mostly ignore people "talking" this way. pwn means, I think, owned or something like that. But I'd like to know too what these kind of terms mean.
I'd say you are probably better off knowing as being able to r34d 1337 sp33k (read leet speak) probably means you are losing precious brain cells in the process..Originally Posted by Radiance

hahaha I pwnd ju ~ ...I am more skilled than you
1337 ~ leet/elite using numbers in the place of letters along with intentional misspellings and unintentional bad grammar to prevent anyone but the elite from having any clue what you are talking about. There is an amusing article on this attached to the main site in one of Flux's decahedron I think.
Hmm, your right about 1337, but pwned is diffrent.
It originated in counter-strike, while other players use guns, you use pistols. And if you "own them" they say pistol owned or the shortened version "pwned".
I actually thought it originated from a typo ("p" instead of "o") and people thinking it looked much cooler that way. For whatever dark reason they had.Originally Posted by GordoSmith

When people tell me "plz" just because it's shorter than 'please', I feel perfectly justified to answer 'No' because it's shorter than 'Yes'.
And the Lord said unto Carl: 'Come forth and receive eternal life'. But Carl came fifth and won a toaster.
I am an avid chessplayer so I always thought they were talking about the chess piece. So whenever I use the word I pronounce it "pawn" just because.Originally Posted by snowieken
edit: I think it's supposed to be pronounced like "P-Own" but don't quote me on this
