Nothing says SEXSAY like a swimsuit!! Grrrrr, baby, GRRRRRR!!! :teeth:
A pretty, form fitting summer dress... and only the dress
so now you have issues with swimsuits too? What's wrong with teh word sexier? Are you some kind of robot that doesn't feel gut level attraction? What is so abhorrent about good looking women showing it off?Originally Posted by warding
you're the history buff, didn't we used to idolize the naked female body? hundreds of thousands of sculptures, p[aintings and other artworks dating back as long as man has been trying to get between women's legs.
when you discuss sexy, you don't care about respectable, intelligent, and all the ways you think of as better. it's a lower level emotion. it's instinct, primal.
class and sophistication have little to do with dress too. class and sophistication are all about posture and the look. something is just communicated through her eyes and way she holds herself that sends the aura of sophistication. but we're not taling aobut hat. we're talking sexiness.
Well, I know, but I will never go to the beach to look for a date for my opera or ballOriginally Posted by Stevinator
As for female nudity, there is a cultural different in every circumstance. Ancient Greeks idolized male nudity moreso than female nudity (Brad Pitt's nude scenes in Troy didnt annoy me much, therefore), it had nothing to do with homoeroticism either. Another culture who idolized male nudity in art was the art of the Third Reich (but thats a complex matter- better leave it)
The main difference between modern American nudity for example, and nudity in modern art (and I am not an art historian, nor an artist, so anyone with greater knowledge than me is welcome to interject), nudity is used for symbolic purposes (and especially since humanism.)
Well, I can, when I prefer to show, instead of tell, so:
Some examples of nudity in modern art:

"Sacred and Profane Love"
modern American stuff:

You may not even understand the importance of the nudes in the former, doesn't matter. You sense they are for completely different purposes.
Quite frankly, what people would describe as "sexy" hold absolutely no charm for me, carnal or otherwise. Im sure there are other people like this, although I am sure not many. At certain stages, I think, one realizes that all love, even sexual love, is a spiritual, rather than carnal element. The moment you detect in pornography a lack of spiritual appeal, it drains away your carnal appetites.
See, the thing is... I just like looking at pretty girls with pretty bodies.

I can't say I understand why people used to make art but I do know why when you see femal bodies, they tend to have little clothing on the young ones and lots of clothing on the old ones.
beauty. eroticism. the stirring of gut level emotions.
Love doesn't play in here. Love is multidimensional, it doesn't require physical near perfection. it isn't about love.
now as for the symbolism of the naked body...yes of course there's going to be a significant difference between two different art forms where the human body is used for completely different purposes.
think about the star. I could show you the american flag and have you look at one of those then grab the movie pinocchio and FF until i got to the scene where they wish on a star. Those stars are two different stars and they have two completely different meanings. one is a symbol and it makes you think of something...the other fills you with an emotion. does that make the disney cartoon wrong?
of course you don't pick up dates for operas and balls on a beach...i mean you could...but your chances aren't great. we're not talking about someon you have to marry here...it's a simple glance at someting beautiful. and don't think she didn't spend a lot of time getting to look that way.
sexy is not about love. Love may be spiritual, i don't think so...but then i don't put a lot of stock in the spiritual. I do agree that love is something much different and not something you can compare with love, but you were the one to bring up love. we were talking about sexy. BIG difference.
My general point is that I don't like "sexy" :/ So if you ask what do I find sexier, I'd say probably the bikini, but that's like asking what do you find saltier? McDonalds fries or Burger King fries? Do you even like salty fries? More important questionOriginally Posted by Stevinator
