Everybody's talking about that dark creepy place in the depth of Tamoe's... The Pit... I've been there once and never returned since then... I still don't understand what's special about the Pit?
I went there with a Hammerdin (~200% mf), cleared out pretty quick the area but no good drop at all, nothing special... Even the shiny golden chest dropped nothing but...... a cracked sash (ok just kidding but still...you get the idea)...

First of all, the pits is an mlvl 85 area, meaning monsters in there can drop every item in the game, and champions can drop Tyreal's Might (mlvl 87, champs are mlvl 88).
Also, since it is an mlvl 85 area, the experience in there is excellent. I regularly run the pit on /players5 or 8 (I play SP) when I reach act 1 hell to level up a little bit (normally into the low 80's).
Also, the monsters in there are easy. Carvers, Skeletons and archers. You only have to worry about the archers, and then only if they are in a boss pack with some rediculuously scary mods.
Also, I understand your frustratoin about getting nothing spectacular. However, the Pits is nothing to be run only once. One must run the Pit many times, over and over, until something comes up.
In the SPF, it is a favorite among MF'ers because if can drop everything, and because our maps stay the same throughout each game, we can roll a huge map for the pit and then we have an entire area, with quite easy monsters to kill for mf.

The Pits as stated can drop everything in the game. However you can go more than one run without having anything drop. That is normal.
Persistance will pay off.
As another SP player, I love how the map seed stays so I can get to The Pit quickly as possible.
Good things abuot the pit
A)good exp=p
B)ITs usually quite easy
C) once in a while, u get very nice items
Bad things
A)The dark archers are VERY dangerous
B)I dunno
I like the pit because it drops me a lot of socketables, which don't drop from most other super-unique mf runs.
