DTM and ES... On a PvP Sorceress.

If I have over 100% DTM (Damage taken goes to mana), 10 Telekinesis, and a high level Energy Shield that absorbs alot, I'd pretty much be invincible, right?

Or am I missing something here? o_o

Things like this always look great on paper, but they'll be really messed up...

it might be capped at 95%, im not sure

plus youd need lots of resists

dtm only gives mana for life you lose, so 100 will be taken down to 5 (if you have 95 es)

my friends making an es melee sorc that uses that 100%mana leech staff, curious to see this in pvp.

    Hi.

Yup, DTM is almost useless on a Sorc that uses ES, it's "nice" to have as a secondary affix to preserve *some* Mana, but it definitely isn't a stat that you should sacrifice something else for.

    A quick (extreme) example :

500 physical damage taken after PvP penalty, you have 95% ES.
    500 * 0,05 = 25 life lost, 475 Mana lost with slvl 16 Telekinesis. (1:1 ratio)

You have 50% Damage to Mana, which gives you 13 Mana (25/2 = 12,5 rounded up to 13)

So in the end you lose 25 life, 462 Mana.

Of course this is a very extreme example because almost no one uses 95% ES, but it should give you an idea of why the DTM/ES combo isn't invincible, or effective at all.

Well, DTM and high level ES dont work hand-in-hand. Either go for high DTM, low or no ES or; low or no DTM with high level ES.

what i suggest, since this is a pvp sor, that is do not have ES if you are fighting another sor. Use ES if you are pvp-ing a melee.

Nope, resists are pointless with a high energy shield. Resists only affects the damage that comes through after the sheild absorbs. Say you have 95% ES, someone deals 100 fire damage. 5 life lost, 190 mana lost(if 0 in telekinesis). Resists can only reduce that 5 damage.

As for DTM and DR you have to experiment so that your life and mana dp down at the same time. If you die with a lot of mana left over, it is a waste because you could have used it to shield yourself from some damage.
