    New updated Strafe IAS breakpoints

    Hi all.

The marvelous guys at the Amazon Basin have determined the new Strafe frame breakpoints. I'm quoting the same information here because there seem to be a lot of Strafer questions here nowadays.

    Here's the original post quoted:

With some better knowledge of the animation process, a different and hopefully more accurate set of strafe breakpoints has been determined. The information here has been simplified from the information in the link above.

    Strafe breakpoints for bows
    -10 WSM Bow
    0% IAS 13/3
    2% IAS 12/3
    13% IAS 11/3
    15% IAS 10/3
    37% IAS 9/3
    60% IAS 9/2
    80% IAS 8/2

    0 WSM Bow
    0% IAS 13/3
    13% IAS 12/3
    26% IAS 11/3
    29% IAS 10/3
    56% IAS 9/3
    86% IAS 9/2
    113% IAS 8/2

    5 WSM Bow
    0% IAS 14/4
    6% IAS 13/3
    19% IAS 12/3
    34% IAS 11/3
    37% IAS 10/3
    68% IAS 9/3
    102% IAS 9/2
    133% IAS 8/2

    10 WSM Bow
    0% IAS 15/4
    3% IAS 14/4
    11% IAS 13/3
    26% IAS 12/3
    42% IAS 11/3
    46% IAS 10/3
    80% IAS 9/3
    120% IAS 9/2
    157% IAS 8/2

    Some notes on the notation:
The second number means the same thing as before: the number of frames needed to shoot every arrow that comes after the first arrow.

The first number means something slightly different now. It is actually the number of frames needed to shoot the first arrow + the number of frames needed to finish up the strafe animation. Because of how the animation process works, this is not the same as the number of frames needed to do a normal attack.

For easy reference, here are tables for normal attack speed.
    -10 WSM bows
    0% IAS, 12 frames
    8% IAS, 11 frames
    22% IAS, 10 frames
    42% IAS, 9 frames
    75% IAS, 8 frames
    142% IAS, 7 frames

    0 WSM bows
    0% IAS, 13 frames
    9% IAS, 12 frames
    20% IAS, 11 frames
    37% IAS, 10 frames
    63% IAS, 9 frames
    105% IAS, 8 frames
    200% IAS, 7 frames

    5 WSM bows
    0% IAS 14 frames
    6% IAS 13 frames
    15% IAS 12 frames
    27% IAS 11 frames
    46% IAS 10 frames
    75% IAS 9 frames
    125% IAS 8 frames
    240% IAS 7 frames

    10 WSM bows
    0% IAS, 15 frames
    4% IAS, 14 frames
    11% IAS, 13 frames
    22% IAS, 12 frames
    35% IAS, 11 frames
    56% IAS, 10 frames
    89% IAS, 9 frames
    147% IAS, 8 frames
    292% IAS, 7 frames

    Interesting.

So does that mean, that when using WF, one should aim for either 80% ias or 120%?

With a Strafezon, basically yes. If you use attacks that work at normal attack speed like GA, MS, FA then you might want to go for 90% IAS to get to 9 fpa, but if you mainly just use Strafe then 80% IAS might be a better option if it suits you better gear-wise.

That makes quite a difference. For example one could reach 80% ias by using Cat's Eye, Steal skull, goldwrap and LoH alone without putting a shael in the WF.

One thing about the tables looks a bit odd to me, though: The breakpoints for 11/3 and 10/3 are quite close to each other. But maybe that's just the way it is.

Yes, that's the way it is. It's all explained in the original thread mentioned in the quote (warning! it's VERY technical)

erm, so now i should stay at 9/2 for my wws strafer, seems putting in the other 23 ias is too much trouble gearwise (i have 90)

    Ah..thats nice.

I am wearing the "Liessa Wyrmbane Recommended Strafer Setup(TM) " (though I traded 100 dex for 100 life...I am a whimp, I know.)

of Dual Shael WWS, Ravenfrost, LoH etc etc..and have 95 IAS. I used to remember that the next Strafe BP is at 105 and slapped on a Goldwrap and nothing seemed to change. Now I know why. 105 for normal attack, 113 for 8 frames Strafe. I don't see a way to get there, unless upgrade my Twitch and socket a 15 IAS + res jewel into it... (instead of Lionheart)..but that will hurt me on so many levels (life, res, dex)

Currently in act 5 hell...and if you can feel safe at all in hell, I must say I feel pretty safe here

I bit the bullet and replaced my fervored Duriel's Shell with a 3 socket Light Plate with +47 Life and socketed it with two IAS jewels and one all res jewel. It's pretty poor replacement, but for a speed freak like myself it was worth it.

    Regards,
    Liessa
