View Full Version : Nephalem Valor, any information?

Now when a lot of people have reached lvl 60, there should be some info about the Nephalem Valor system. Someone knows how it works exactly? How much MF do you get for each champion pack, how many times does it stack, is it on a timer, do you lose it if you die? In the end, will it make a big difference, or will it most likely be best to still just farm the last boss?

I can't answer most of your questions, but Blizzard said it's better to have the buff than not having it.
The best loot will drop from champion packs, it seems. But Bosses drop way more items, so you want good MF to increase your chances for some rares or even Legendaries.
I guess people who've made it to level 60 already are too busy sleeping to spit up some data. XD

Or Nephalem Valor hasn't been patched in yet.

15% MF & GF per stack. Up to 5 stacks.

I've killed 2 bosses with full stack. Got 2 & 3 rares + 5 blue.

Very nice! In d2 that wouldn't mean anything but in D3 that's a ton of MF/GF, more than I've managed while leveling even when I tried, and even 50% is enough to give a big increase in magic/rares found. I understand it has (or a Blizz rep said it has) some affect on the actual number of items dropped too. Wish we had some data on that. :/

Alright, we've been 60 for two days, here's stuff about it.Nephalem Valor is the name of a buff.It only starts appearing once you hit level 60.You gain one stack of the buff, up to five stacks, for killing elite (gold) or every member of champion packs (blue).You do NOT gain stacks for killing quest-related elite spawns.The buff provides 15% magic find & gold find, up to 75% for all five stacks.It last 30 minutes.Stack duration is refreshed upon killing elite or champion packs.It does not reset with death.It resets with leaving a game or changing skills.It also resets with server shutdowns and disconnects which is lame.The MF and GF are applied to everything you kill. The treasure goblin was dropping 1k's of golds for us.
edit: ugh, for some reason the spacing got all erased. Oh well. Anyway, I've seen a boss drop 5 blues and 3 rares with the buff up. It's awesome.

So that extra buff that works on bosses, does that mean just end-act + sub bosses (eg skel king) or does that include elites also?
Only act bosses (for act 1 that would be the skeleton king, the spider, the warden and the butcher).

My brother mentioned that the buff also ends when completing an act. I'm not quite at 60 yet, so haven't had a chance to check.

Are you sure about that? Valor adds to the visible MF and GF stats on the character sheet. It'd make sense if it worked everywhere.
I can also confirm that the buff disappears if you change the act. Even if you use the caravan, not leaving the game.

I think he's talking about the hidden part of the buff that actually makes more items drop, not just increases the quality of the drops.

I have had champions drop additional rares with the valor buff up, something that never happened pre-60. In fact, champions other than the final one to be killed have dropped rares. Interesting.

I can confirm. 15% MF and GF bonus per stack, up to 5 stacks, 30 minute duration that refreshes when you gain a stack. Buff is lost when changing skills or moving to the next act (at least in act 3->4). Extra loot only affects major bosses, not sure which ones are included, but so far I can confirm act bosses and skeleton king. The extra loot is a big factor - never less than 2 rares and on some occasions 3, and like 5-6 blue items.
Farmed a lot of good stuff (mostly sold on AH, but also using 2-3 of those) by running skeleton king in inferno with valor buff, going back to the crown quest area to get some more stacks if I find the skeleton king level before I have 5.
Not sure what happens when you have less than 5 stacks. 4 also seemed to have a major effect on bosses. 1 stack didn't seem to do anything noticeable.
I'm fairly certain it increases MF across the board - more magic and rare items drop off everything from a vase to a boss. It is absolutely ridiculous. Rares start to drop like crazy at five stacks.

It does, but it also buffs the actual number of items dropping from the major act bosses.
At full stack, killing bosses makes sense finally. I'm still pretty undergeared, so I can only farm from Adria's Hut to Skeleton King. SK drops are crazy, mostly at least 3 rare and 5-7 magic items and he's way easier to defeat than a champ/rare pack with a ****ty property combo.
No really good items are dropped at the stage of the game I think, it's just better to make some more money :)

I would really try to do the Butcher. I ran skeleton king 5 times as well, because I thought my gear was terrible. However, butcher is actually easier for me. More importantly, the Head Jailer also drops boss loot. The route is also much shorter/easier, and you ALWAYS get 5 stacks without even trying, 95% of the time even before the jailer.
