It's kind of clever on Blizzard's end to force players to upgrade gear. If RMAH doesn't perform as well, Blizzard might as well patch in Enrage into the earlier difficulties. Looks like RMAH is set to be a buyer's market.

You mean seller's market? (If people are forced to upgrade gear)

At first I was upset about this, because I was afraid that it would diminish skilled and tactical players from being able to beat a boss in clever ways. Now I tend to lean towards the camp believing that this will help thwart farmers/bots from exploiting bosses for loot.

I'm still a bit torn though, will have to wait and see.

Would be nice to have more skill checks and less gear checks, but I guess creativity required for skill checks only goes so far...

I think the enrage timers are less about being "strong enough to kill quickly" and more about "stopping gimmicky builds / strats to make bosses super easy".

Eg. Specing your build to be virtually unkillable, but do 70% less DPS.

That will honestly probably still work. They stated that enrage timers weren't i win buttons, but just big advantages, but ones you could push through. An example was given where the skeleton king would summon 3x as many skeletons per waves after a certain amount of time (and note he said he was just making up an example and not that was how SK actually worked in inferno).

So virtually unkillable builds will still plug through.

This pretty much just kills the weak builds that would otherwise prevail through AI abuse, potions, and time.
