View Full Version : System Test Program?

Might anyone know if Blizzard will have (or has) a program we can run to check whether a computer will run D3?
I checked the requirements and I'm completely unsure about my system. I've got less Ghz but more cores, a better GPU but less video memory. When D2 was released I built three new systems to run it (for me, a wife, and a friend) and I'd like a little heads up time if I need to do that again for D3...
Thanks!

I don't think Blizzard has such a program yet, but we have one here. It is quite simple to use, post your specs and we'll tell you if it'll run DIII :)
If I'm right, the D3 should utilize 4 cores in a computer. That means that even with pre-sandy bridge intels or athlons should have enough juice to handle it.
In the end, my mum's laptop with integrated nvidia graphics and a 7+ year old cpu can handle Starcraft 2, so I wouldn't be worried about the specs. (The reason I use SC2 as a comparison because I'm quite certain it has similar requirements to D3.)
Otherwise, as Tillitoon said.

From the tests I've done with the beta and disabling 2 of the 4 cores, there are no noticeable improvements running 4 cores over 2 cores. I would obviously need to do more tests with different configurations / scenarios but I don't think the gains would be great. An increased clock speed should yield you better results than having a i5 over a i3 at the same speed, this is for DIII only (not other recent games), and providing you are not doing anything else crazy at the same time (like running a virus scan, etc.)

Read the requirements.
Compare them to your computer.
Profit.

Hi everyone :)
I'm a looong time lurker here, since announcement pretty much, but never got around to posting anything before.
Now with release seemingly around the corner, I've been following this site quite closely and figured I might as well start posting.
This thread seems like at good place to start!
My specs are as follows:
2.4GHz Core 2 Duo (Penryn, 45nm, 3MB Cache)
4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1066MHz Memory (Max 8GB)
250GB 5400RPM Hitachi Hard Disk
nVidia 320M integrated graphics with 256MB shared memory
‘Superdrive’ Optical Disk Drive (8x)
It seems they are above the minimum specs, but still nowhere near recommended specs - am I screwed?
Thanks, Damorath
Edit: looked really weird with copy-pasted stuff!

Can't believe that so much people are planning on playing DIII on their laptop.
Should be playable at low / medium. Hope you won't get too much stuttering cuz a 5400RPM HD is slow. CPU is ~ok, video card is... ~ok.

That's just less than pleasant, if not actually rude, completely unhelpful and thoroughly irrelevant. Was there a purpose to this reply other than to increase the number of posts beneath your name?
I DID read the requirements. Did you not fully read my original post? I said in that post "I checked the requirements". Further, I said "I've got less Ghz but more cores". How could I know about the Ghz if I hadn't read the requirements?
Honestly I thought this type of reply would have been beneath you.

Well, what precisely do you expect? Should we set up a QA desk at home with your exact specs? Otherwise we can't help you. You meet the requirements or you do not, anything over or under that is finicky at best for any game. If you're straddling that close to the borderline then you have to play to find out. Every system is different, and you didn't even bother to provide your actual specs.
I don't really care what people think is "above", "beneath", or any other location within the realm of me.
The HD may be slow but you have plenty of memory so loading will be slightly painful but once loaded you should be g2g.

One of Polish hardware sites tested Diablo 3 beta. Tests they made shows that on 4 cores game runs way slower then on 3 and 2 cores. Here is this test (scroll down to CPU, rdzenie = cores, średnia liczba kl./s = avarage fps, minimalna liczba kl./s = minimum fps):
http://www.benchmark.pl/testy_i_recenzje/Testy_kart%2C_CPU%2C_RAM-4435/strona/16942.html
Also they checked how it runs on diffrent GHz sets.

Not sure how they did the tests but I'd like to see actual retail CPUs used instead of tweaking the settings. There is no way a 4 cores would be that much slower than 2 or 3 cores at the same frequency. I would also like to see benchmarks on new generation CPUs (Sandy Bridge).

I doubt this rig will be able to run it properly.
