I guess I'm really answering my own question here, but I'm really bummed- I hoped this thing would hold it's own awhile longer...looks like I'm screwed with a 8600m gt card. I mean really, what does playing on low perfomance entitle? I am NOT tech savy, but I can't imagine anything less than high performance is going to be enjoyable. :weep:
Playing the game on low settings vs high settings doesn't make much of a difference, in my opinion. I have tried. Yeah, it looks a little better, but you're still playing the same game, doing the same things.
Also, expecting anything that's 4 years old to play a game on high settings is not something most people do. In computer years, your laptop is in it's mid 50's.

If it would have been a gaming desktop then you would probably have been fine but gaming notebooks are out of date quickly. If you are lucky you might be able to replace the video card, but it would not be an easy task. I know I can do it on my M1730, but in my case I already have the max video card this notebook supports (8800m GTX SLI).
The GFX difference from highest to lowest isn't huge in the beta, and personally GFX don't bother me too much, performance is way more important to me, if I can't run at 60fps solid it just doesn't feel right, like playing in slow motion.
I guess this was a good lesson for the future though, "gaming notebook" is an oxymoron in my eyes. You can build a desktop that will smoke D3 relatively cheap these days.
