View Full Version : Should i upgrade my system?
Hi all,
I wish to buy Diablo 3 whenever it comes out, but i'm not sure if my system will be able to run it.
Here are some of my specs:
AMD Phenom(tm) II N930 Quad-Core Processor
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
4GB RAM
I can upgrade my system (I've got a budget of around 400 bucks). But what i am wondering; is should i upgrade my system, or wait and save up and buy a WHOLE new system with a budget of around 1500 (that's for EVERYTHING). I'll have to wait a year or so if i want the whole new one, and not sure if i want to go down that road lol.
Anyway, if you have any ideas, let us know!
Thanks :)
The 4250 is integrated and trash, and your laptop won't have the needed slots to upgrade. So, I guess your only hope is to start saving and buy a desktop when you have the cash.
Uhh i am a total noob when it comes to pc specs etc
Can you translate that? Haha sorry

Your graphics card is terrible, but you can't buy a new one because your laptop doesn't have the needed slots. You are stuck with what you have. You need to buy either a new gaming laptop, which will be extremely expensive or you need to buy a gaming desktop which will be less expensive and better overall.
Basically, you can't polish a turd.

Mythbusters did it !
If possible, could you suggest some video cards i should choose from (for my new system)?

MSI ATI Radeon HD 6850 Cyclone Power Edition 1024MB - £100
MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 2048MB - £200
MSI ATI Radeon HD 6970 2048MB Twin Frozr III - £300
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 7950 OC 3072MB PCI-Express Graphics Card - £400
Any of them will run Diablo III perfectly.
Also, bear in mind the new Nvidia cards will start hitting in April, this will probably shake up the prices and possibly add some new "best in price" cards.

This is true. I have a gtx 470 from Nvidia and I can run the game at max settings and Netflix a movie on my second monitor without using more than 65% of the cards processing power...oh and I also maintain 60fps. The game is not graphics intensive..a radeon 6850 will be more than enough and your cheapest premium option

They're both very close performance wise, really it comes down to preference. Nvidia or ATI? Personally I can't wait to go back to Nvidia.

True.
For D3, there won't be any major differences. For other games though, you might want to consider
NVidia: 3DVision and PhysX.
ATI: EyeFinity.
And obviously the benchmarks specific to the games you want to play (because some games perform slightly better with ATI, others better with NVidia).

One thing is for sure: you won't need 2GB graphics memory to run D3 at highest settings. The game literally can't utilize more than 1GB if i'm not mistaken. Only games like Crysis on ultra could actually potentially utilize such amounts of memory at the moment if you're just running one monitor.
A HD 6850/6870 1GB is more than fine for D3.

He asked for a selection, and that's what he got, no one said anything about needing more than 1GB of VRAM for Diablo III. It just so happens 2GB is common past a certain budget.

Exactly, and considering his budget isn't very big he shouldn't even be glancing at features he probably won't even have use for ever.

$1500 isn't a high budget? That's around £950, which is less than I'm paying for my new rig in April when the new GPUs and CPUs hit. I don't see why you have a problem with me doing as he asked? He wanted a selection so I gave him the best offering at each price point, you may think you know what's best for him, but unlike you I'm happy to give him the choice so he can make up his own mind.
