View Full Version : Can items be bought from RMAH with paypal directly?

Hi. This question got asked in a thread but I've not seen a proper answer to it yet, apologies if I missed it.
There is a cap on the Blizzard Bucks balance which effectively means a cap on the top limit that can be charged for an item on the RMAH - UNLESS stuff can be bought on the RMAH using paypal account instead without going through the Blizzard Balance first.
Anyone know if this is possible please?
If not what/how are people going to deal with those uber items "worth" more than the blizzard balance cap?
Blizzard hasn't given us any firm information on this. I don't think they've even hinted at it. Naturally, if items are worth more than the cap, some people will use third party sites, and other will just accept that $200 is the most an item can be worth.

I guess you could sell it for gold in that had a value in excess of the real money cap, then sell the gold in chunks.
Will they cap the maximum gold in a single GAH transaction, or for a single item?

That's a good question and agree with AKUder that they haven't answered it yet. Either that or Azzure and other others have missed the news since it hasn't been posted on this forum since day one.
TL;DR You can buy items from the RMAH with paypal directly.
Here's two Blizzard FAQ's that state this, one implicitly and one explicitly:
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/services/auction-house/functionality#q5.
http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/battle-net-balance-frequently-asked-questions-faq#q13
So, players can make payment using a registered form of payment attached their battle.net account. As a US player, the payment methods I can set up are Paypal, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.
Also a Bashiok reply to a twitter post indicates that $200 is not the limit: https://twitter.com/#!/Bashiok/status/168979991558766593.
Incidentally, the $200 (US) that we saw in the ToS seems to have been increased to $250: http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/battle-net-balance-frequently-asked-questions-faq#q4
I've been busy fact finding today, but it does appear to me that you will be able sell an item for more than $200 ($250) and will be able to purchase items with methods other than b.net balance. I'm not sure how blizzard will exactly handle this because as an auction house, you could list an item for $1.00 choose to have it go b.net balance and then have it bid up to over $250. Maybe you'll have to make the selection after the item sells? Maybe if you select b.net balance it will be limited to $250? Maybe you can have more than $250 there, but can't add your own funds there to be greater than $250? It will be interesting to see how that goes, but by and large seems like $200 ($250) will not be the max. In the FAQ it says a pop up will tell you if you're going to exceed your balance, but it doesn't talk about how that works with RMAH. Time will tell.
$250 for some pixels, no thanks, even if they are Diablo III pixels.
Apparently you're willing to pay $60 dollars for some pixels (and maybe a game manual if you don't digital download). I won't be the person spending $250, but there will be (are) people willing to do so.

What a silly post.

no, its absolutely 100% accurate and on point

It's really not. You can't compare spending money on the game and buying items.

Yes, one can. Paying for a game is paying for entertainment. Paying for items is paying for entertainment. It's the same thing and people just selectively choose not to acknowledge this.

IMO, you can compare. The thing is that if you have to money and you play and like to play, you gonna spend the money. Unless your at high school and don't have money for nothing, it's pretty normal to spend money on games including virtual items.

If that's your opinion that's fine, but it's not one shared by everyone.

You said they could not be compared, I said they could. That is not an opinion, it's an obvious observation. That you do not agree with it, does not change anything.

Oh OK, I didn't know your word was gospel. Might want to pop that head of yours :D

My post wasn't juvenile, I was simply offering my opinion. It's not my fault you think your opinion is fact and get upset when you're challenged.

Yes, it was. It was also non-constructive. And yes, it is your fault, because nowhere did i say this was "fact". Did you even bother taking a moment to comprehend my statement? I said

Observation. It's something that I see. If you think that is wrong, then feel free to state that and feel free to disprove my observation and enlighten me on my error.
That you think I am upset, though amusing, is quite wrong.

OK, I can tell you're one of those people that can never be wrong and honestly, I don't have all night to bicker back and forth with you. You can nit pick all you want, but you know what you meant and so do I. The last time I made a post that could have ended this silly argument you went and continued it, so this time I will make it clear, if you want to argue with someone, argue with yourself.

I have no problem being wrong, all I require is proof. Not too much to ask is it? Your last post did not try to resolve anything, instead it was just as inflammatory. If you don't want to argue, then you should not have started off by doing so in the first place...
So, while I'd like to say "lets get back on topic and not derail this thread"... it's probably too late for that.

Yeah it is sorry :(
The thread is trashed. The table has been overturned, food is smeared over the carpet, the door hangs jauntily at an angle by a single hinge, there's a roughly TV sized jagged hole in the window and no TV to be seen, it looks like the bed has been relegated from sleeping area to toilet, and worst of all when the table got upended the bottle of JD went over with it and the carpet drank it :(
Thanks for trying though guys - it's always far more enjoyable to watch a public ego bicker than waste time discussing stuff.

Guys genuinely I'm not Markco.
He's some proof. http://tuberchimpy.wordpress.com/ - a blog I tried writing and gave up September last year on D3
On the right hand side I do link to Markco's blog, but I also link to others.
If you go read Markco's blog you will see comments from me under the same name in the comments of some posts.
I ran out of stuff to say and just stopped updating my blog.
I found I said a lot more reacting to other people's initial posts ( e.g. M ) so just commented on his blog when he posted sothing that chimed with me.
Going back even further this is where I first sort of started off my D3 blog idea - on a forum
http://www.macksites.co.uk/GameBank/index.php?topic=1149.0
When I started the blog properly I duplicated the material in both places.
Now after all that I'm either not Markco or you lot are way past tinfoil hats on the paranoid scale.
You can troll me all you want for lulz, that's cool, but I am genuinely not Markco :)
If you suddenly do now after all that have a small glimmer of "oh maybe he really isn't Markco after all" maybe then you'll also understand why I fell that although there are some very insightful people on these forums it's also IN SOME RESPECTS ( NOT ALL ) the most unfriendly, closed minded, unwilling to consider someone else's point of view or give some small benefit of the doubt, forums I've ever visited. And as a UK IT guy in his 40s I've seen a few forums in my time.........
Some people here just seem to love to hate :(
Hmm... if you're not Markco... maybe Markco is tuberCHIMPY!???
My mind is assploded!!
At this point, I'm not even sure if I'm Zokar...

:) I wish I was Markco :)
I've been chatting with him via email. If I told you how much ( he says ) he makes from what he does in people paying his subscription fees your head really would explode. Of course I'm not going to, but it's a real shocker.
It's not a shocker. It's the first rule of sales... people are gullible. Or as commonly said, a fool and his money are soon parted.

On a serious note, I don't think you're Markco. You must have missed my universal sign for sarcasm:
There will be insane people who spend tons of money on D3. Maybe even $200 on a single item. Think of how much money people pay for WoW subscriptions, then add the potential for BlizzardBucks gift cards for Christmas and the engineer who makes way more money than he even knows what to do with.
The vast vast majority of people won't, but yeah, Zokar is right. There will be a few people willing to pay a ridiculous amount of money for D3 pixels.
I'm certain that there will be items that will sell for up to $1,000, perhaps more.
http://diablo3markets.incgamers.com/blog/comments/how-much-money-will-players-spend-in-diablo-3-its-a-question-of-funzies
The nature of Randomized items leads to the potential for insanely rare and valuable items. Simply because players do not have a choice or opportunity to get that item by other means, such as farming X boss for example. They either have to pay for it, brute-force craft it (which would potentially cost more) or not have it at all.
PvP ladders would increase prices for end-game items by increasing demand. Nothing gives people incentive like PvP / competitive ranked gameplay to push up their gear progression constantly.

Except PvP won't be ranked. Well, it will be ranked to some degree, but nobody will be able to tell what rank he's at. I kinda hope they'll change that, as even if PvP is not esport level, having some sort of an idea how good you're doing is a good thing.

Yeah, I too wish that there was something that ranked PvP, such as a ladder or something. It would stimulate the RMAH big time.

It's funny you look at it as a way to increase trading in the RMAH, while I look at it as a way to increase interest in actually playing PvP :)

They wont do it, it would also stimulate rage of their casual players which is their target segment right now.
Oh yesterday I bought this sword for 5 busk but this guy killed me? I want my money back, I go spam support, Lets riot.
They want to set RMAH first, make us comfortable with it, brainwash us little..maybe then they will add ranked pvp ..when we have our brains massaged properly..

ranked pvp ? like wow? Never going to happen unless diablo 3 endgame is awful. I think eventually they will put some form of ladder or what not in for pvp, but probably in an expansion. D3 dev team really doesn't seem very inclined to put much effort in working on pvp aside from what they have already done. You can likely expect no balancing stuff for "OP" pvp skills or classes for a long time. They have said time and time again that pvp will not be a focus at all. Ignoring the horrors of trying to balance diablo 3 pvp AND pve, it is a little mind boggling that blizzard is shying away from what seemed to me like the MOST exciting and best time people had at blizzcon with d3 pvp. Plus some form of ranking would really boost the economy without doubt.

22-02-2012, 11:50
They already put in a ranking system. They're just not showing your rank. Showing it would be easy and just a matter of decision. They don't show it most likely because then people would expect them to balance PvP, and to be honest if there is some outrageous balance issue in PvP they should fix it (even they said that they would). In any case, I don't appreciate having info hidden from me just to prevent me from complaining.
