Barb Torch 15/11
*Donated by HSRed*

UPDATE - TBone wins :)

Possibly another one on Sunday; tomorrow is family time.

In approximately 1 hour 20 minutes, another question will be posed - winner gets the torch.

Rules
1) You must be a member of this board for at least 1 month
2) You must have at least +3 trade rating with no negative feedbacks
3) No reselling torch anywhere; if caught, you will get negative feedback and possibly denied further participation
4) Most important of all, have fun; this is here for you guys on the board. Those that are donating are not getting anything in return.

Once you have won once, you are excluded from the next two contests; this will give others an opportunity to win and help minimize hoarding by individuals.

Previous Winners
#2 HumanDoom

Hate to have to add this, but anybody intentionally spoiling it will just end up getting reported to the mods. Spoiling it doesn't really affect me or the person(s) who donate the item; it just ends up ruining a nice opportunity for the board members and it just gives yourself a bad reputation with people that could otherwise be your future customers.

How strict is the 1 month membership rule?

How strict is the 1 month membership rule?

I think we may be able to squeeze you in, you have several solid trades with some of the more known solid traders on here and you are only 6ish days away from one solid month.

If this gets to be a regular thing with people asking for leeway, then I'll probably have to clamp down on it. There will be plenty of other opportunities down the road. I figure I'll be hitting at least 6+ uber runs a week and I'll be happy if I cough up at least one good torch out of that; the remaining torches will probably go by way of trivia threads.

This needs to be answered fully to win - that includes the 'Explain' portion.

Phil McOlon, who was departing Chicago, boarded a monorail at four minutes after the hour. After getting on the monorail, Phil asked one of the monorail employees, “How far are we from Colorado Springs?” To which the employee replied, “All monorails take five hours either direction.” Phil then asked, “How many monorail trains shall I meet on the way?” The employee replied, “A monorail train leaves Colorado Springs at five minutes after the hour, every hour.”
How many other monorail trains will Phil McOlon meet along the way to Colorado Springs? Explain.

Have at it, boyz!

I will check answers roughly one hour after this posting, this allows time for others to respond in case one might feel that they have the true right answer over someone else. However, the rules to who have the first right answer still applies.

8.

When the monorail departs Chicago, 4 trains are en route from the Springs (including one a minute away from arrival in Chicago.) 4 more trains will depart from the Springs in the 5 hours it takes the Phil's train to make the trip (the first one a being a minute later.)

There will already be 4 trains in route when he leaves, then

The first train leaving Colorado Springs that he will meet after he has left himself will leave there 1 minutes after he departs (he left at 4 min after the hour, it left at 5 min after the hour). After being gone 1 hour and 1 minute the second train that he'll meet will leave. The third will leave after being gone for 2 hours and 1 minute. The fourth at 3 hours and 1 minute. The fifth at 4 hours and 1 minute. He won't meet a sixth train because he will arrive 1 minute before it leaves.

The answer is 9 trains (4 trains already in route when he left plus 5 more that will leave during his trip)

To clarify on "4 trains are en route", if the trip takes exactly 5 hours, and the trains leave at one per hour, there will always be 4 trains en route at any given time. The "fifth" train will always be departing exactly as the "first" one arrives at its destination.

Likewise in any 5 hour window, four trains will depart the station, unless you start (and end) the window exactly as one of the trains is leaving.

Bah, TBone is right. In any 5 hour window five trains will depart, not four. Doh!

While we wait for some time to expire, I have what I feel is a fantastic idea for a contest.

I will take a random unique item (to be revealed at later time) and socket it with a random jewel/gem/rune; I will place it at a location in Act1. The first seven contestants to reply to the thread will join the server with newly made level one characters and have to find said item. First person to find it, takes a screenshot of their screen with their map displayed and email it to me. That person will win the torch in the contest.

The reason for the sshot is to help minimize the chance that someone may try to use certain external programs to their advantage. The random socketed item is to verify that nobody tries to keep some random items on them to get lucky; consider it to be a key or password of sorts.

So, what do you guys think?

TBone is right on the answer; sorry, Drucifer :(

9. When Phil leaves Chicago, there are four trains on the way and a fifth one just starting out. Then he will run in to a train at 1/5 of the way, 2/5, 3/5, and finally at 4/5 of the way.

I'll have a mule together shortly, but I gotta feed the troops first :p
