Disclaimer: This works only on date of 28/11/2011 as patch 6 in the beta and it may not be working the same as the game is released.
Here is my very first tip for every one who's looking to make money.
Regular piece of armors or weapons can be sold for around 15 gold, but if they are salvaged they become AT LEAST 1 common scrap which can be sold for 18 gold exactly. You can boost every item's value to a minimum of 18 gold if you salvage them. Then you can use scraps to craft or to sell them. This is good in 2 other way: Common scraps stack which leaves more space in your bags and when you salvage you always have possibilities to get more mats.
But don't get fooled people, this is good only for a few levels only after that items start to be more worthy. !! Enjjoy :)
Edit: As for now Common scraps are selling for #49# gold and so, I believe rapidly after the game is released, supply > demand and prices will go down, and from there my tip will be useful !! :)
