Whoa! A monk!

Welcome Autti!

I'm back, so its awesome again.

Jcakes
26-10-2011, 03:09
Welcome Autti, don't worry we don't bite (except Corax, but we don't talk about that)

kestegs

kestegs

You guys scared off the new guy!

Jcakes
26-10-2011, 03:40
Of Corax .

pancakeman
26-10-2011, 03:43
There is no danger of it being traced to me if Jcakes follows directions and burns it. If not, he will have doomed himself as well as me.

kestegs
26-10-2011, 03:44
You can't trust corax, he has a pointy end.

Jcakes

kestegs

I just keep up with my conversation. This is all about me, after all.

kestegs
26-10-2011, 03:54
Yay! More Aussies to make fun of :D

corax
26-10-2011, 03:59

and kegs just sits there hitting his wife:thumbsup:

kestegs
26-10-2011, 04:01
Someone's gotta hit her, you want me to just let some stranger do it?

corax
26-10-2011, 04:06
you have a good point. its nice to keep it in the family

Autti

I'm going to become a mod if the urban dictionary.

Jcakes
26-10-2011, 04:52
I'm going to become a mod if the urban dictionary.

I wonder if the process for becoming Mod of the Urban dictionary is the same as here? If so you should start spamming now.

corax
26-10-2011, 04:59
surely urban dictionary has higher standards than to let stegs be a mod

Autti
26-10-2011, 05:03
how does one become a mod here? or is being OT in OT to meta to discuss?

pancakeman
26-10-2011, 05:10
its nice to keep it in the family
So tempted...

corax
26-10-2011, 05:23
i think there is a secret mod OT where they discuss people and their likelyhood to be mods. then they ask you.

Jcakes
26-10-2011, 05:25
how does one become a mod here? or is being OT in OT to meta to discuss?

I'll give you a bit of context to my comment. Kestegs has only recently become a mod. The joke is that he went from 1k posts to 10kpost in ~ 6 months and thus by spamming became a Mod.

What really happened is that Kestegs put himself out there, made helpful posts, got to know people and got selected for Mod duty.

corax
26-10-2011, 05:42
thats a lie cakes. he got there by spamming. they modded him so he'd have to do actual work so could post less

Fercil
26-10-2011, 06:23
The sun goes down and all the Aussies come out...
Then they gather on roads and stare at car lights. Or was that kangaroos? Who cares.

What really happened is that Kestegs put himself out there, made helpful posts, got to know people and got selected for Mod duty.
I don't really know what happened with Kegs but this is generally how it goes. One gets chosen if there's need and one has proven himself worthy.

Autti
26-10-2011, 07:02

Thats pretty much everything in Australia.

Anyone got any good monk names? and be good i mean awful. Like for the wow expansion with the worgen names like Worgen Freeman.

corax
26-10-2011, 07:25
haha worgen freeman. best name ever.

tony shalhoub?

corax

did you get my reference?

that comic is rofl

Autti
26-10-2011, 09:02
did you get my reference?

i did after google if that counts. and then i was like OMG! he played Jeeves from MiB.

still can't think of any cliche names

corax
26-10-2011, 09:31
he did.

i can't think of any either.

kestegs
26-10-2011, 11:35
Wow, cakes said something nice about me!

I've got nothing on names, I hate picking names.

Nice comic though :)

I usually name all of my pets in a game Timmy, simply because that name is underrepresented in the arcane creature department.

One of the guys from the law panel (or was it gameplay) talked about a toon named Timmy. GMTA?

Better question is male or female monk...

Actually thinking about it now, female monk names would be easy, going on the nun joke.

Shotgun a female monk called Penguin and dressed in black and white!

Kaysaar
26-10-2011, 12:32
I was naming my pets Timmy long before BllizzCon 2011

kestegs
26-10-2011, 12:34
Penguin is nice :)

I have to pick male monk, because I am male!

Jcakes
26-10-2011, 13:14
I am going to pick a female everything, because I don't want to spend my D3 time looking at a male ***

kestegs
26-10-2011, 13:18
Interesting theory.

I'll still go for the dudes.

Jcakes
26-10-2011, 13:20
I guess you could always look at HAWC's *** when you are sick of looking at male ***'s

starrise
26-10-2011, 13:41
Well, you could always point your character south, then you can look at man-boobs instead of the rear. I'm going for female legs. I mean monk. And female barb because strong curvy women are awesome. And then male everything else because otherwise my wife will think I'm creepy.

Autti
26-10-2011, 13:55
Interesting theory.

I'll still go for the dudes.

thinly veiled coming out of the closet.

Male Monk, WD and Barb. Female DH and Wizard.

Don't know how much time i will spend on the other classes tbh monk is just awesome for me

Jcakes
26-10-2011, 14:04
As I said I think I will play them all as Female, except maybe the Barb and WD.

BTW it is nice to finally see some people in this threads that are not regulars from other OT threads :)

kestegs
26-10-2011, 14:09
Yea, that wasn't the most straight thing I've ever said

Monk is cool, I'm sure I'll play them all before too long.
Monk is like a martial assassin but it actually works :p

Kaysaar
26-10-2011, 17:19
I will inevitably play a barbarian first, as I enjoy bludgeoning digital creatures with large weapons.

kestegs
26-10-2011, 18:17
I'm rather against your typical barb. However, I think the D3 barb looks much cooler than the one in D2.

Kaysaar

Autti
26-10-2011, 22:55
Reagan smash!

I'm fairly certain if you pull up some Barb armour you could actually make a barb look like the reagan super mega robot. I mean you can already make him into an elephant

kestegs
26-10-2011, 23:13
That would be pretty awesome. Yet another reason to love D3!

Jcakes
26-10-2011, 23:23
I don't know what a Reagan smash is, but elephant barb sounds cool

Admittedly, very little smashing happens in my life. It's disappointing really.

kestegs

We move fast...

Reagan smash could visit you.

Jcakes
27-10-2011, 00:36
Reagan smash is a Family Guy reference.

That explains why I did not get it, my house is a Family Guy free zone.

kestegs
27-10-2011, 00:41
Your life must be so boring!

Autti
27-10-2011, 00:41
im on page 57... maybe i should change my forum settings.

I wish i had a house...

kestegs
27-10-2011, 00:44
10 per page is where its at!

Houses are overrated, too much maintenance.

Jcakes
27-10-2011, 00:45
Houses in Perth are stupidly expensive.

@Kegsy: life is soo much better without family guy.

Kaysaar
27-10-2011, 00:47

Houses are overrated, too much maintenance.

Amen to ten per page!

Also, the wife and I are looking at condos to minimize maintenance.

Autti
27-10-2011, 00:59
Houses in Perth are stupidly expensive.

only because we have jobs over here to pay for them :D

i went 20 per page, because you know, i'm in the danger zone *kenny loggins*

Jcakes
27-10-2011, 01:19
I have the best of both worlds. I do work for clients in Perth, but live in Adelaide. So I get paid a Perth Wage with lower living expenses :p

kestegs
27-10-2011, 01:26
20 per page is weird, I don't think I've heard of anyone using that.

I'd really like a condo I think.

Jcakes
27-10-2011, 01:43
20 per page is basically a fence sitter, don't want to go all the way to 40 (were the cool people are) but don't want to stay at default (with smelly monk mods).

kestegs
27-10-2011, 01:54
I smell good! I've showered.....somewhat recently.

I do agree that he is a fence sitter, but what are you gonna do....he's Australian.

Autti
27-10-2011, 02:04
ok so maybe 20 per page isn't the danger zone i'm thinking of.

I'm only sitting on the fence because your paddock smells and maybe i'm not as bold s jcakes.

kestegs
27-10-2011, 02:08
Are you this non committal with everything?

Autti
27-10-2011, 02:14
Are you this non committal with everything?

my fiancee always said that.

kestegs
27-10-2011, 02:19
How long has she been your fiance?

Autti
27-10-2011, 02:25
How long has she been your fiance?

Jcakes
27-10-2011, 03:53

pancakeman
27-10-2011, 03:56
Ten per page is for OGs like me and Kay. Only nooblets go to 40.

kestegs
27-10-2011, 04:01
OG? Old girls?

pancakeman
27-10-2011, 04:06
Original Gangstas. Or Ostentatious Gazelles, take your pick.

Jcakes
27-10-2011, 04:10
I agree with kegs, Old Girls

pancakeman
27-10-2011, 04:13
Yeah well you're both wrong.

kestegs
27-10-2011, 04:17
I don't know why I said that, I'm in that category as well

It must be original gangsters.

pancakeman
27-10-2011, 04:23
Wow kesty.

That is all.

Jcakes
27-10-2011, 04:24

27-10-2011, 09:37
hi :)

my question is off topic but :

i thought i will make a mf sorc and twink a monk .. or
is it very different to d2 where u needed a mf sorc :)

Autti
27-10-2011, 10:17
its very different because you can't get sorcs

10 per page causes arthritis. fact. thats why everyone is so old

Jcakes
27-10-2011, 11:16
@rothee: It is a little early to tell as to whether you will need an MF wizard. I would probably recommend just playing the character that you are most comfortable with (when the game come sout of course).

BTW your question is On topic in an Off topic thread which makes it Off topic .... I am confused

kestegs
27-10-2011, 11:27
rather confusing it is. The fact that they have removed teleport as we knew it in D2 would suggest that any character will have equal opportunity.

Welcome to the monk OT though!

See...that's why you can't trust corax!

Jcakes
27-10-2011, 11:49
Why can't you trust Corax? Other than the fact that he is Corax?

kestegs
27-10-2011, 11:50
Isn't that reason enough?

It just needs to be said on occasion.

Autti
27-10-2011, 13:43
off topic is on topic in the off topic thread. so meta.

kestegs
27-10-2011, 13:48
Really though, anything goes in here for the most part. You don't always want to make a whole thread just for a simple question.

pancakeman
27-10-2011, 15:15

27-10-2011, 22:50
I can see Modstegs singing like that...

Actually....I can hit them.

I can hit notes way up in high soprano, although I usually just sing tenor.

pancakeman
27-10-2011, 22:55
I don't know about high soprano, but my comfortable range is similar to Steve Perry (from Journey). Very high, especially for a tall guy like myself.

Hey Kimi

Hard to tell at this point, I don't know who is pitching, which really is the biggest factor.

So you are saying that heart has no bearing on the game? Your saying that every time they swing the bat that their batting average gets plugged into the cosmic RNG, and that decides their fate?

Autti
28-10-2011, 13:52
So you are saying that heart has no bearing on the game? Your saying that every time they swing the bat that their batting average gets plugged into the cosmic RNG, and that decides their fate?

In a sample size of 1. sure. But baseball players follow predictable batting, and clutch hitting is a logical fallacy that assumes hitting towards the end of the game is more important than the start.

kestegs
28-10-2011, 14:01
That is correct of course. Every hit is as important as the last.

But you can't deny that playing in the championship game has an effect. It may inspire you to play better or cause you to play worse.

There were 5 errors in last nights game, that's a huge number especially for the two best teams in the league.

When I'm playing racquetball and am facing game point I convince myself that I must do every possible thing to not miss the point. I can often notice quite a difference in my play ability.

Kaysaar
28-10-2011, 17:53
There is a psychological phenomenon referred to the spectator effect, which is when a person with a skill performs in front of an audience. For people that have mastered a skill, they will generally perform better in front of spectators, whereas people who are learning a skill are more likely to perform more poorly than normal if knowingly observed.

kestegs
28-10-2011, 17:58
Never heard of that before, but I agree with it.

I get rather nervous when people watch me, but I think it is changing and on occasion now I feel like it fuels me to do better

Kaysaar
28-10-2011, 18:13

That game was odd, for a World Series game. I am sure both teams want to forget it. I thought LaRussa's toupee was going to turn gray.

Now it's a 1 game series. I will be watching tonight but can't start it until about an hour late. But that gives me a chance to skip a lot of bothersome commercials.

kestegs

Carpenter's starting for St. Louis on three days rest. He's only started on three days rest once in his career, before game two against the Phillies. He lasted three innings in that game. I'm starting to think Texas has an advantage.

Not that I care tremendously either way, as a Dodger fan.

I think that's a White Sox fan thing. I think many Cubs fans will root for the Sox to win (I did in 2005) but most Sox fans will root for the Cubs to lose. Cubs fans are nice. Sox fans are not. I think it must be the different neighborhoods.

I am rooting for the Rangers because as a Cubs fan, the Cardinals are our ancient nemesis. One Cubs fan in another forum I visit wrote this when asked if he was rooting for the Rangers:

As are all people who, when darkness blots out the sun, cheer for the last ray of light to break through and drive evil from the sky.

What an anticlimactic trophy presentation - MLB should take a page from soccer and present the trophy to the players. The Cardinal's owner received the trophy with no emotion.

Fast forward to about the two minute mark:

KM_XHuLoFKg

With that, I'm off to bed.

They do make a lot, check this (http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/baseball/mlb/salaries/team) out if you really want to know.

The Cards make about half as much on average as the Yankees, that's what I think is funny.

corax
29-10-2011, 12:14
and that is why the aussie nrl brought in salary caps.

everyone ignores it but it makes scandals so much fun

kestegs
29-10-2011, 12:27
That is a lot of why I dislike baseball. Football does not have the same problem, I think salary caps are a good thing for sports.

corax
29-10-2011, 12:53
the aussie teams like to breach them. then leave their damning paperwork sitting in the open

kestegs

Not too bright. That doesn't really happen here I don't think, they keep close tabs on it I'm sure.

Autti
29-10-2011, 13:24
your talking about NRL though corax, and they consider a filing cabinet secure because people wouldn't look in there.

Also salary caps is hardly the biggest problem for NRL with all the rape and drugs and violence going round.

Salary caps are good, evens out the teams, heck look at EPL for the must biased competition in the world where only 3 teams have won in the last 15 years

Dacar92
29-10-2011, 15:18
I like what the NFL has done for parity. Salary caps help that to an extent. But so does good drafting, good coaching, etc. The Packers wouldn't be so damn good without this. They are from a pretty small market. Would they be able to compete with a NY Yankees type of team in the NFL?

kestegs
29-10-2011, 17:07
Yes, the NFL would be a very messed up place if teams like giants, colts, patriots, etc could spend as much as they want.

Kaysaar
29-10-2011, 18:58
Well, huge team sizes keep NFL salaries down. When you have a team of 17 players, like in the NBA, it's a lot easier for wealthy templars to splurg more, because there is more money for fewer players. It's hard to spend wildly on players when you have to spread your money between 60+ players.

corax
29-10-2011, 21:12
