Have you not heard of Durf?

LOL

It is funny the intelligence steroetype over here is for Chinese not Japanese

kestegs
24-02-2012, 00:42
I would definitely say we stereotype Japanese as smarter here.

Muggs
24-02-2012, 00:43
Yeah Chinese here are not stereotyped very highly.

kestegs
24-02-2012, 00:48
I can't really think of any good stereotypes I have of them.

Leopold Stotch
24-02-2012, 00:51

You could.... But only if you love us.

24-02-2012, 00:58
Interesting, the main stereotype I've heard about Japanese (women) is that they are all involved in prostitution.

I put my order in on the other thread. Thanks Leo!

Geishas are not hookers.

kestegs
24-02-2012, 02:36
I never said they were hookers.

Muggs

I never said they were hookers.

Prostitutes are hookers too just a fancy name for em.

kestegs
24-02-2012, 02:45
I disagree.

Sterling Archer: Oh my god, you killed a hooker!
ISIS Comptroller Cyril Figgis: Prostitute! She was a prostitute!
Sterling Archer: No Cyril, when they're dead, they're just hookers!

Is it bad if I heard the chara voices when I read this? :nervous: Kinda like "Good News Everyone" from Futurama. =P

kestegs
24-02-2012, 11:26
No...that's not bad at all! I heard it in the character voices and I've only seen the scene once :p

Jcakes
24-02-2012, 12:16
I don't even know what the scene is ...

kestegs
24-02-2012, 12:31
It's a scene from the show Archer. We were discussing it in the DoE. I figured you could put 2 and 2 together since the quote was by Archer

Yea, that is a bit sad.

That video is pretty funny. Man they made some great music videos in the 80s!

Muggs
24-02-2012, 21:03
They are one of the quintessential 80s bands.

Hmm apparently the throat problems with Steve Perry was nothing more than a rumor. I am reading an interview with him now and all these years I thought he had throat cancer or polyps.

kestegs
24-02-2012, 21:09
Yea, for sure they are.

Yea, I remember hearing that as well, interesting that he didn't have anything.

Muggs
24-02-2012, 21:23
Yeah makes me wonder why he never went back to journey. They could make a killing right now since the 80s very popular again.

Pretty funny. I am trying to think of any Australian shows we watch here but can't think of any. I can think of a bunch of British and some Canadian shows.

BTW there is a major World SuperBike race going on not too far from you this weekend.

Jcakes
24-02-2012, 22:01
You're thinking of Phillip Island? Yeah that is about 1,000 km away 621 mi. So not too far away.

kestegs
24-02-2012, 22:08
Scrubs is awesome of course. I need to resume my watching of it, I think I'm in the middle of season 2 or something. Got stuck on 30 rock for a while now though.

Yep Philip Island and 600miles is not too bad I would have to travel further to see any of those races in the US. That is the one track I have always wanted to go too probably one of my favorites in the world.

Jcakes
24-02-2012, 22:11
it would take the best part of 8/9 hours for me to drive there (if I was driving at the speed limit). My uncle often goes to Philip island fairly often on his bike, he can get there in half the time, so long as there are no cops around :D

kestegs
24-02-2012, 22:11
My son would love to see that. We have an amateur track right off of the highway here and we love seeing them as we drive by.

For me to go to a WSBK race it would be 1900 miles, MotoGp at Indy is 600miles and Formula one in Texas is 1100miles. You are lucky to be so close to a great motorcycle track for both motogp and wsbk plus you get the Melbourne GP for F1. I am Jelly!

Yea, it is crazy that they can actually do that. Always makes me think of LoZ :D

Muggs
24-02-2012, 23:19
Motorcycle racing definitely involves a lot of rider strength and stamina since you are muscling a bike around that wants to go straight due to centrifugal force. The guys that race are in sick shape.

Jcakes
24-02-2012, 23:36
Centrifugal force does not actually exist muggs . Without going into too much physics, when people refer to centrifugal force they are generally referring to centripetal force

Muggs
24-02-2012, 23:39

Fine spoken like a true engineer but it is the gyroscopic effect of the engine and tires wanting to keep the bike upright that they are fighting against. Better?

Jcakes
24-02-2012, 23:42
I am only playing muggs. I don't actually know enough physics to be able to comment. All I remember was a whole lot about fictitious centrifugal force and reactive centrifugal force ....

Cycling is pretty nutty too, especially something like the tour de france

Muggs
26-02-2012, 01:06

My main criticism of family guy is that it is poorly written, most of their characters are rip offs (look at stewie / Brain) and it relies on gags that have nothing to do with the story. In addition the Gags are mostly recycled the show has essentially hree basic gags -- a cutaway to something that references a work of '70s or '80s pop culture; one of those "stretching out something so long that it's funny" routines (they do this one about five times an episode), and sexual-innuendo jokes

Muggs
28-02-2012, 00:41
You can break down nearly anything like that. Take the last movie you saw be it any movie and I bet it was: Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back in the end.

They all have formulas. The cutaways are what make family guy so funny imo but it is also targeted at a certain age group to even understand the cutaways. Mostly Gen Xers.

I know most things are formulaic, so I am not sure what it is about Family Guy, but I just don't enjoy it or find it funny in anyway. I am firmly on the South Park side of the FG / SP divide.

I didn't realize there was a debate except if you are talking about the FG SP episode. But Matt Stone and Trey Parker hate everything except the broncos so you really can't count that.

They really hate everything. I have seen the DVD commentary but there has been feuds between all the great animators in the US. Matt Groenig thinks everyone ripped him off and rips on SP as only using controversy to make episodes and the simpsons should have gone off the air a decade ago.

You can not like FG and I know a lot of people who don't like it but they all tend to be pretty young and just not get the cut aways.

Jcakes
28-02-2012, 03:33
What I mean is I understand the references, it is just I don't find random cut aways amusing. It just reminds me of bad standup you know the kind when they point out things in real life saying it is absurd. I can't really think of a good example, but they always start with "What about such and such"

kestegs
28-02-2012, 03:46
Like Jerry Seinfeld? It's called observational comedy.

Jcakes
28-02-2012, 04:10

Muggs

It's cultural, you are not an American, so I can understand you not getting it.

This

I get it, I understand the cut aways, but it is just meh

No if you don't know what the cutaways mean of course you would not find it funny. Like when they cutaway to a commercial that we used to watch as kids it's funny because we remember the commercial etc if you never saw it in the 1st place how can you be expected to laugh. Or here is another last night peter went to find his hidden porn the basically redid the beginning to get smart if you never saw get smart you wouldn't understand the parody. FG is a niche of funny because it hits on the nostalgia of a certain generation growing up in the US. You are neither the generation nor did you grow up in the US so it is not surprising you wouldn't even get most of the references and only see it as a cut away to nothing.

kestegs
28-02-2012, 14:17
I don't get half of the references on there, but it's still funny.

And there is not much plot. I'll take that over the same exact plot line like that simpsons any day though.

Yeah Seth is older so a lot of his stuff is from early 80s and some late 70s.

And simpsons has not been funny in over a decade. That show just needs to go off the air.

kestegs
28-02-2012, 14:57
I never really enjoyed Simpsons, but it is just awful these days. Tried to watch a new episode a few months ago and made it about 5 min in before I fell asleep.

Muggs
28-02-2012, 16:10
The simpsons was hilarious back when they came out and back when people like Conan Obrien were writers and has fallen off steadily from 2000 on imo.

kestegs
28-02-2012, 16:16
Yea, probably true. I was never allowed to watch it when it first came out so I missed out in it when it was fresh.

It's funny to think that people actually considered simpsons bad television back when it was released. This country is so assbackwards when it comes to certain things.

Skjolde
28-02-2012, 21:37

Jcakes
28-02-2012, 21:48
I agree that there hasn't really been any quality simpsons for a long time. Oh and @Muggs I have watched Get Smart and that is actually funny :D.

I guess that is the thing about comedy is it is very subjective. I for example really really really despise 2.5 men, I really enjoy a lot of british dark humour (black books etc.) and love the subtlety of the british office.

Well you have the most important thing which is a great sense of humor!

Yea, Simpsons is nowhere near as edgy as it used to be, looks rather tame these days.

It is more edgy than it ever was if you watch the show now. It is just people are not as sensitive as they were back in the day. People in this country find the most asinine things to get up in arms about ... Rabble rabble rabble rabble.

kestegs
28-02-2012, 21:54
Saying you like british office just further proves my point.

People just like to be asinine, give then a break, okay!

You are right it is very subjective. I love british humor too and I also despise 2.5men that show is really for old people. Ricky Gervais is hilarious though and really sells the british office but I used to watch a bunch of BBC comedies back in the day and still do. Do you watch an idiot abroad?

I just like to laugh and I change my brain to fit the show be it highbrow or ultra lowbrow I still laugh.

Skjolde
28-02-2012, 22:02
Well I hate 2,5 man too. Love british comedy/satire as well. Favorite ones being blackadder, fawlty towers, monty python and bottom. And that's just to name a few. I like the british office too. While I hate the american version.

Oh, and I love Family Guy.

kestegs
28-02-2012, 22:02
2.5 men is an awful show.

I do like Ricky G, but that only goes so far.

Muggs
28-02-2012, 22:05
So at least we can all agree that 2.5 is a big crap sandwhich. It is fun when we can all hate the same thing.

Black adder, fawlty towers, etc are freakin hilarious. The american version of the office is definitely more of an acquired taste. I didn't like it much in the beginning but I am hooked now.

kestegs

Muggs

Home theater PC

kestegs
29-02-2012, 00:21
Ah.... Yea, that would be nice. We just sit at my desk because the laptop is not very reliable.

Muggs
29-02-2012, 00:23
When I retire the laptop I am using now it would be a perfect HTPC. But until then I might take some of my scraps laying around and put a HTPC together especially since somethings don't stream properly on my PS3.

Jcakes
29-02-2012, 00:25
I'd love to build one too, not sure the wife is so enthused by the idea :D

Muggs
29-02-2012, 00:27
I would just have to buy a case and a lower power powersupply and I could have one. Not sure I would build one from scratch right now although the new Ivy bridge i3s are perfect for one.

If they make an app for it they do but there are things on motogp.com or other race sites I dl vids from that there are no proper codecs for. I get tired of watching things on the laptop.

kestegs

Wii can't do stuff like that at all actually :p

We have a 50 foot monitor cable that we just plug it in to my laptop.

Our laptop doesn't have an hdmi hookup,I saw my new comp does though.

Well I like to watch live timing on my laptop and have the practice/qualifying/race on the TV. Although I think they have a tablet app coming out for that this year.

hi everyone one, im back again if you remember me.

New forums software? Looks pretty.

If you want a HTPC wait for the Raspberry Pi to come out, it will do the job perfectly for $35 plus a few peripherals. provided you don't mind fiddling around in a Linux environment a bit.

Muggs
29-02-2012, 01:04
Welcome back I don't personally remember you which is not saying much since I am semi newish here but the more the better in the OT threads. Of course not sure we need another Aussie around here :troll:

I have seen the Raspberry but I want something that works more like a PC than just a HTPC I plan on using it as a seed box and other things. Plus I have a ton of extra parts laying around it won't cost me much if anything. The PI if it does all it claims to do will be pretty cool.

We got a week straight of over 100 in Winston last summer, and it happened to coincide with the week our AC broke. And the repair people were swamped, so it was a solid week of waiting. Did I mention humidity was abnormally high that week, even for NC? Fun stuff.

Thanks kestegs! :D

Btw a friend of mine got me hooked on a few games for my phone. iMobster, Vampire Live, Kingdoms Live (or something like that) and Zombies Live. They're all the same kind of games, just different themes. Most likely I'll end up with just letting that zombie one die, as that wasn't as much fun and maybe the kingdoms one. Although that is reall fun, as I'm tearing people apart there. ^_^ So easy to keep all my stuff up to date. :D A bit trickier on the others, especially iMobster now, since I need new equipment to complete quests, and all those items have upkeep. Basically it takes away from the money you automatically recieve every 50 minutes. So with an income of 10k and upkeep of 5k, you'd get 5k every 50 mins. I was almost at 90k income, but due to all the upkeep I'm down to almost 20k. :s

But I only need about 2 million in new equipment now, and I can start to see massive returns from missions. Which means time to buy more buildings to earn more cash! ^_^

Edit: Oh snap it's 5.30 am already. o.o Time for sleep. Good night! :cloud9:
