Does Whirlwind work like in D2 where you do multiple strikes per second at it randomly hits a certain monsters or does it now do equal damage to everything within range?

Looks to me like everything in range gets hit =)

So if everything gets hit would Attack Speed have any bearing on WW damage output? Maybe it reduces the of time between each hit within the range?

We have no way to know yet, but I don't see any reason for why it shouldn't.
It doesn't look like whirlwind will scale with attack speed, but fury generators do. More attack speed means faster cleaving so you can spend more time whirlwinding. Not much of a tradeoff but it's something. It's looking like WoW; slow weapons are king.
I really hope you can increase the whirl-speed to get more hits/sec somehow, it's not really a whirlwind to me if it's slow as the videos make it out to be.
