View Full Version : Will it run on my laptop?
Hello everybody. I'm very nervous for a couple of days about will d3 run on mi *****y laptop:
hp dv6-2155er
Intel core i7 720qm 1.6Ghz
nvidia gt230m (system requirments medium in blizzard list)
4gm ram
I just want to have good framerate on the lowest settings. How do you think would it be ok or i have to buy a new PC.
Thanks.
I think you will be good with even higher than the lowest settings. I think blizzards rating is based on ~60 fps, so I wouldn't worry about it.
There are a bunch of these threads around, so I suggest searching around the forums and google a bit if in doubt. :)

Yeah dude you should be good. The only thing I'm a little worried about is the CPU. But your Graphics and RAM are good so that should even any CPU issues out. If it's a Dual Core CPU than you are good to go. If it's not, you'll be able to play NP but I wouldn't try turning up any crazy settings like shaders or Anti-Aliasing.

A core i7 is a dual core with hyper-threading. It will show 4 cores in your operating system.
You should be fine, on medium settings because of your graphics card.
Edit: the core i7 720qm is actually a quad core and will show 8 threads.
I doubt Diablo3 will use that much, but you should be more than covered on the CPU part ;)

Yes it will run. How well, however, you will have to quantify. I personally, without looking deeply into it at all, would say on medium-high settings.

Diablo 3 is optimized for 2 cores. Two cores could be used while other resources could be offloaded onto the remaining logical cores. Few games are designed with hyperthreading in mind as it's easier to program through the GPU than through the CPU, in particular, threaded cores. These threads may or may not interfere with the gameplay.
More importantly is the cooling, voltage, and most especially latency times. Sure bus width and speed is important too, but on a laptop, it's rarely taken into mind because I've never seen a laptop user bothering to overclock the RAM (or dare to.)
The cooling depends on his laptop model. The voltage I suggest to keep low. I do not know the latency time.

What I find more important at this point is your GPU. This is a good site for benching these cards. I won't go too indepth since it's plainly spelled out, even with relative FPS on modern games, which you can figure out yourself.
