View Full Version : Cranked Speed Barbarian

I made this build with the intent to have a Barbarian control the battlefield.

This build is fairly Fury-bloated for a few reasons, primarily for Whirlwind [Hurricane] usage, but also for maintaining a constant effect Sprint [Marathon].

Sprint [Marathon] is a staple of the build, requiring only 20 Fury (Half of which is easily generated from the Unforgiving Passive), and should be used on cool-down.

The main movement abilities are personal preference as to specific use; however, each has its' own merits.

Leap Attack [Launch] is geared toward aerial movement, including traversing stairs, ledges, ravines, etc, whereas Furious Charge [Merciless Assault] is good for breaking through hordes of enemy lines.

Frenzy [Relentless], on the other hand, is a dual-purpose skill. It serves as standard single-target damage Fury-generator, as well as offering additional movement speed.

Whirlwind [Hurricane] provides many functions, including: Area of Effect damage, Fury dump, alternative to Furious Charge [Merciless Assault], and it is not impaired by monster pathing (You are able to pass through monsters).

Lastly, Ancient Spear [Grappling Hooks] is your go-to skill for either separating packs or bringing them together.

You may think that this is very low on DPS; however, you should realize that I have said nothing about gear on purpose, which is what will drive this behemoth.

Interesting build, but you don't have any health regen or defensive skills. Don't know how end game viable it will be. If you change out 2 runestones you might have a better build.

Iron Impact for Leap Attack - +700% armor for 4 sec after landing
And
Siphon for Ancient Spear - +700% of damage is gained as life

Aslo, I don't know if you need that much fury gen if you just use a Mighty Weapon with WM, as long as you hit 3 targets with your WW you will be gaining about 7.5 fury a sec.

Here is some changes to the build (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#fdgRjk!YaU!cZaZZc) that I feel keep your main theme alive but also gives you more damage and more survivability

I believe in this case, 'better' is opinion. The heart of this build is not Whirlwind; focused Whirlwind builds are out there, as well as builds more focused on survivability.

This build is focused on movement and controlling monsters; Ancient Spear with Grappling Hooks, in this build, is meant to either a) pull a big group of monsters apart or b) roundup any remaining remnants of the group.

Changing Leap Attack into Iron Impact is more of a defensive preference that I do not share.

Your build neuters the main advantage of the build and that is constant speed. My build's focus is moving between mobs, pushing through them and dividing them; Your alteration moves in an entirely different direction, focusing on pulling everything in and tanking damage, not mitigating it through speed.

With just using Frenzy and Sprint in my build, you are moving at a constant +132% move speed -all the time-. Think of this build more along the lines of a battering ram, not a D2 WWer.

If you are worried about Fury, you can drop Animosity for Relentless and use +%Life gear; Dropping WW for your Fury-free Hammer of the Ancients, something like this:
http://d3db.com/tool/planner/barbarian/50869

Gives you an extra base +1200 health, as well as +370-450% Life. Assuming a base, no-geared Barb L60 with an 8000 health pool, (depending on how they calculate it) you will either have 37200 or 41400 health. Getting below 20% will still not put you in dire straits, as even at 20%, you still will have either 7440 or 8280 Life. Not even mentioning 50% Damage Reduction + Armor + Defense, etc.

Well maybe you should have explained your theme a little more at the start. When the first skills you talk about is WW it gives a different impression.

One build I was interested in also relies on speed as a sole means of defence, but it remains to be seen how viable this will be in inferno.
