View Full Version : D3 beta - how much bandwidth does it use?

Hi,

I was wondering about bandwidth usage of D3 beta. Has anyone tested it yet? I have seen few people mention the game fetches quite a bit more data from the server than D2 does. Of course the beta doesn't perfectly resemble the full game, but having a rough idea is better than nothing, right?

My internet connection isn't exactly fast, even though it is classified as broadband. While I'm confident my connection speed won't cause issues, I'd like to know whether I can stream music etc. while gaming or not. Some of my friends have even slower connections than me, for them the information is even more important. Also, in some places internet connections may also have data transfer limits - it'd be good to know how big part of the weekly/monthly (?) allowance the game will grab.

If anyone who knows the answer or is willing to do some testing, thank you :)

I'm posting this because I have interest in the answer as well. I fear not an ISP lag issue though as I'm on 50/50mbit connection. However optimizing for a lagless onslaught is never a bad idea ;)

Just as much about any other game like 2~3 Kilobytes a second or so, maybe 9~10 if it's a crapload of mobs and everything.

Highly doubt that lest D3 makes huge .temp files clientside :( as long as the game runs. It'll take eons to download a patch by the way.

Just played the d3 beta with a bandwidth monitor running. I was not running any other programs. Seems like d3 beta uses very little in the way of bandwidth.

Thanks, Maurice, that's exactly what I wanted to know ^^

ororo, 331kbps is serious business
thats not little nor light, its above average and requires good cable or at least dsl (gsm/gprs/edge users are out)

That was the maximum, because he probably downloaded something on startup.
The average of 22kbps is a more likely indicator, and that was even ramped up by that maximum. The real average while playing is likely below 20kbps.
