Anyone tried out that axe/bow of frost damage and noticed a chill effect as in D2?

Edit: Non beta testers, have you seen a video with cold damage weapons?

i haven't noticed with cold damage weapons, but all the cold spells chill and slow. Frost Nova, Frozen bosses, Ice Armor, etc.

Interesting. If you crit with a cold weapon, do they freeze like they did in the original gameplay footage from 08?

I think I saw that happen with my demon hunter and a cold damaging crossbow, but she does so much damage she rarely didn't kill in one hit. I can probably get some precision gear, and take off my 2 rings of + 2-4 damage to check to see if that is the case.

Yes, when using a weapon with Cold damage the "snared" message comes up.

edit: interesting note, seems like Impale is the only skill that is showing the "Snared" message (along with Basic Attack).

I kind of figured as much, but if you could check, that would be super awesome.

I thought it was really great how they froze for a second or two and then shattered if killed. Since they went to all that work to create the effect, I'd assume it's still in, but haven't actually seen it in any of the many gameplay videos I've watched.

Snare definitely works with cold damage weapons and you do see a chilled effect on the monsters. I'm not sure if they shatter upon critical hit, but there is some visible elemental effect. I did some very early testing and did not see elemental effects (at least from cold damage) working when using skills. I don't think my Evasive Fire or Bola with my cold damage bow actually chilled or slowed. Although I do remember Leap Attack with my barb hurling a burning corpse towards my camera when I had fire damage on my weapons, so who knows what the mechanics for weapons mods are for the moment. All this is subject to change btw.

here: http://www.diablowiki.net/Critical_hit

Types of damage and effects

Critical hits are a major part of the game in Diablo III, dealing double damage with every type of damage, inflicting bonus effects, boosting and being boosted by a wide variety of skills, and triggering special (extra gruesome) death animations.

Physical Damage: Deals double damage. Might also knockback, but not confirmed.
Arcane Damage: Critical hits from arcane damage silence targets for 4 secs. (Silenced targets can not cast some spells, such as a Skeletal Summoner or Goatman Shaman resurrecting fallen minions.)
Cold Damage: Critical hits from cold damage freeze targets for 2 seconds.
Fire Damage: Critical hits from fire damage set targets ablaze, dealing additional damage per second.
Lightning Damage: Critical hits from lightning damage stun targets for 2 seconds.
Toxic Damage: Critical hits from toxic (poison) damage have an unknown bonus. Extra damage over time?

This is really old and well known info.

This question comes from discussion of the Blizzard spell. It does not list slowing as default, so unless it is implicit (all cold damage=chilling) or an oversight, it should not chill (without runes).

One other fun thing - Cold Damage on your weapon applies when you cast Spectral Blade as a wizard. So my Spectral Blade was able to slow enemies, which was totally awesome.

Thank you Beta testers for getting back to me (especially JumpyMonkey for the screenshots!)
