As a fun concept, I tried to put together a build that uses no hate spending abilities. As it turns out, I think it will be very possible that a build using 0 or 1 hate spending ability is not only viable, but very good.

The concept here is to keep Shadow Power(+55% movement speed) up 100% of the time by buffing the discipline pool using Preparation(+60 disc/30sec). However the main damage dealer is Hungering Arrow(95% pierce)...Yes even for AoE. I also added in the boar companion for some low cost dps.

Hungering Arrow has mainly been looked at as a single target damage dealer, and less useful for group damage. Which is true, except when you have A LOT of arrows flying around. However...given that it has no cost, and shadow power will always be up, you can get 20 arrows piercing all targets in about 5.5 seconds.

That means for groups smaller than 7 targets, you'll be doing more damage with Hungering than Multishot...but more importantly, you'll be doing it sustained with no worries about running out of hatred....

If I was to add a hate generating skill (What and destroy the gimmick!?) I would definitely replace companion with Multishot (330%). You could completely spam it at any time with no need to worry about going out of hatred because you have no other skills that depend on it.

My real build non-gimick (Besides the shadow power, but i'm obsessed with that)

Entangle, Spam Multi till OOH, Entangle, Hungering/Evasive to regen.

EDIT: My only regret is that I still can't find space for Hot Pursuit even though it would be a permanent 10% speed bonus...Could maybe drop Archery just for the novelty of it.

EDIT 2: Tweaked my build a bit. The rune for Shadow Power can be almost anything. All the effects are great I think. Also, companion is kind of my bonus skill here. Picked it for some steady effect at low cost/time.

You don't need Bola Shot or Preparation. Golden runed Shadow Power and Perfectionist already reduces your net discipline drain to 0.04/second.

I've posted my comparisons of Hungering Arrow to AOEs. It blows crimson Bola Shot out of the water, and makes Elemental Arrow very questionable, but Chakram, Crimson Multishot, and Crimson Impale are still very viable.

I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised by this build. Not saying it won't work, but when I saw the idea of only using Hatred Generators and Discipline skills, I immediately expected moves like Spike Trap, Strafe, maybe Caltrops, Smoke Screen, or Sentry, and almost definitely the Hot Pursuit passive.

Strill-So, you're saying the disc regen/sec is 1 leaving a total disc drain of .04 for running shadow power continuously. Then it's definitely overkill to add prep and bola. Will retune the OP based on that comment.

Interceptor-Yeah, due to the overkill on disc regen skills that I added I lost a lot of option for utility. As far as hot pursuit goes...10% just isn't enough for my taste, but yeah I wish I could justify it. Recheck the OP for changes.

EDIT: Trying to change too much was minimally useful because not many additional skills are very good when you're discipline limited because of shadow power. I made some changes though.

FYI, perfectionist is mathematically equivalent to +25% Max Discipline and +25% Discipline restoration from all sources. Imo it's a very underrated passive.

I am quite curious if its really viable to build a Demon Hunter whom focuses on maximising discipline to spam sentry turrets forever. Though I am clearly worried about if you only can have one at once or not.

Yeah I thought about that too, I made a build with this idea.

Basically built around Caltrops, Sentry, and Companion for damage with discipline recovery from Multishot, Bola Shot, and Preparation. I hope you can have more than one Sentry out...
