I was wondering, why DH´s companions don´t do dmg accordingly to weapon dmg, since the witch doctor pets now do. I assume, they are going to update the skills at some point?

Besides that issue, what do you think about them. Are they worth a skill slot, if they do a % of dmg acc. to your weapon?

If they can take damage and draw focus away from you they will be a game changer just like they are for the WD. Something tells me that they won't be able to do either nearly as well though.

They should scale with gear, I wouldn't trust the tooltips at this point. I'm also not sure that DH pets will be drawing aggro, at least not the raven, but we'll see.

I'm more curious if they last until they die. It's a bit lame they cost discipline if they do, but at least no cooldown.

if you guys check out entangling shot "Justice is served" (Golden Runestone) it's ability "reduces the cost to 12 hatred" but with the changes in the DH Entangling shot is now a Hate generator, so they got some editing to do, I think a lot of what we see now will change calculation wise, hopefully they don't change the way hate/discipline work and move the skills around again though.

Are they worth a skill slot...?

I don't care what they do, until they change it to Shadow Companions instead of Woodland-creature Companions, it's not worth a slot! :p

No way, I'm using Ferret companion 24/7 as soon as I get him <3

We haven't seen them yet, I'd said its a good chance they are "shadow" creatures. I hope they look cool!

Yes, Strafe also has an incorrect tooltip; It still says it costs hatred even though its filed under the "Hatred generators" tab. Definitely be a bit skeptical about oddities in the talent calculator.

Hmmm, that's not the impression I get but if you're right, then yes, I will be needing a Shadow Ferret please. :p

Well to be honest, if I am going to mf, which i probably will, since the DH will be my first character, then it would makes sense to use the ferret companion, since it collects your gold, but also increases the amount by 40%.

I am however not so sure about the other ones. The bat might proves useful, as it grants 4 hatred per sec. This could help a lot now, that hatred doesn´t regenerate that fast anymore. The wolf has a time limit and a fixed dmg, which is not very cool, but does more dmg than the boar, which nobody wants. I mean, who wants to go around with a pig? :d

The sentry will do more dmg than they will, and also function as a decoy, but if the dmg and perhaps health of the pets were to increase with your level or weapon dmg, then perhaps they might prove useful. However not at the moment, besides the first-mentioned ferret and bat.

personally I like the idea of the Bat (regens hate) the spider (slows enemies but it will depend on how many at a time they slow or how quickly the move on to slow the next monster) the ferret for more gold sounds useful for those nasty gold sinks, but the damage dealing companions look grossly pathetic unless you can summon more than one at a time.

I'm definitely going to use a ferret and try to stack gold find. If I can amass lots of gold, I don't have to rely on luck for 1. Also gemming Topaz I think in helm increases gold found, these should stack. Hopefully DH will be a lot of fun, we'll have to wait and see.

The spider might be a good choice for pvp in particular because of it´s snare, but we´ll just have to see.

I'd love to see some pictures of the DH companions! Also, I hope they're quite powerful. Why have them otherwise? I'd be a waste of a skill slot.

I'll have a naked male DH named Liberace running around with a ferret. Nah just kidding but I do like the companions for their varied abilities. When I was playing a druid over a necro in d2 the only reason why I had a companion was so it can take some of the blows while I single target the bad nasties.

Just scrap the whole companion idea and instead have something called "Shadow Minion" in which the DH's shadow takes life and melee attacks.

Runes would be:

hate/health regen increases hate regen by 5, health regen -- 50/sec (around there, though low hp/sec).

gold collector (auto picks, doesn't have to run to gold -- some sort of shadow would pass over the gold and it disappears in a puff of smoke or something) also increase gold find and maybe mf slightly,

ranged attack in which the shadow minion gains more damage and attacks from a range small chance to pierce,

consume in which the shadow minion gains more damage and melee attacks have a small chance to consume the target (1 hit ko on small/medium monsters, otherwise deals 100% more damage if activated on bosses/large monsters/players), and lastly would be

shadow bind in which the melee attack slows the monster by a percentage, this slow would affect other creatures nearby the first affected creature as well, kinda like a plague of slowness or something -- lasts a few seconds and if the first creature spreads the slowness to another, then the first' slow wears off, the first creature can get infected again by another creature (so with mobs everything will be slowed all the time pretty much).

Based on this shot of the bat, they will be shadow minions:

I found one other runed companion which strangely looked like a burning skull. I assumed that its a placeholder model, since based on the calculator there's no such thing, that's why I didn't post a screenshot of it.

A burning skull is fired by a rune of Elemental Arrow.

Shadow Bat is wonderful. Though I admit I had expected the Wizard's Familiars to be animals and the DH Companions to be formless, I'm not that bothered to be wrong.

They showed the ferrets! (and the bat) They showed the DH summon two ferrets with one cast, I wonder if this changes with the runestone level. I'm sure pictures will be showing up soon.

I saw the panel, but I still can't figure out if this was real or some sort of playful jibe at Runic
