View Full Version : Will D3 be region-locked?
Specifically for the SEA region and the USA?
SC2 initially had these two regions region-locked, but has since made it possible for SEA players to play on North American servers.
Has there been any recent word on whether or not Blizzard plans to do the same for Diablo 3?
I am in Australia and would love to play with my friends in North America. I might have to pre-order a North American copy of the game if D3 is going to be region-locked :(.
EDIT: Whoops - this can be moved to General Discussion - I meant to put it there. :S
I don't imagine so. As we will have a master account name and they have said they want us to be able to name our in-game characters whatever we like, so there could be duplicates, unlike Starcraft I assume.
Probably will use the same system as SC2, seeing as that's where Blizzard is going.
I've seen it mentioned somewhere. The situation for SEA is the same as with Starcraft 2, we can choose to play on SEA or NA.

If I live in Australia/New Zealand/Southeast Asia, what server will I play Diablo III on?
As with StarCraft II, players who purchase the Australia/New Zealand/Southeast Asia version of Diablo III will have their own regional servers, offering lower latency and more action during peak hours. While we encourage players to play on these servers, we recognize that many have longstanding friendships with North American players and would like to continue playing with them. Because of this, we're again giving Australia/New Zealand/ Southeast Asia gamers access to both regions' servers so they can choose where they'd prefer to play.
Thank you so much for that, Eagle!
Made my day!
I'm aiming for SEA version because of latency. But I'm also worried about the price, since it's probably higher cause you can access both regions, like SC2 :|
ah, no, sc2 sea version was overpriced by nature before NA region access too, official explanation was that server and bandwidth cost much more in Singapore than US. So, for the sake of optimum game play, I'll go with D3 Sea despite of having to pay more. :(
