Hi,
I was wondering if there are shields and defensive things ( skills ) like diablo2, I've searched and didn't find any things about parry / evade / block ect ...
Are we going to stick to 2h / dw?

Thank you,

Shields are still there (% chance to block x damage), evade is now called "Dodge."

There are currently no shield specific skills/passives; all classes can use shields with their one hand weapons.

Skills you can see on the official battle.net D3 site. Shields are in the game and are supposed to not be nearly as powerful as they were in D2, but hopefully also not gimp your damage nearly as much as shields in D2 did. How powerful/weak they are in the end game is still a big open question though.

I've chatted to a mate who is a bit concerned that shields might be a bit redundant in D3. He was even suggesting the same as the OP that the S&S Barb might be no longer?

Has anyone gotten a feel for it as a viable option in the beta so far?

Probably should post this is Kast's big, barb thread...

It probably isnt viable in the beta since Act1 in Normal is just that easy, specially if you outlevel that content. I would wait for a the full game and even wait for Inferno mode to judge if Shields are useful or not.

This is my take on a shield barb inspired by the d2 paladin. This is a defensive character, who has a high crit and dmg potential using overpower and furious charge(bull rush)/frenzy(smite) to stun with and then smashing the opponent with blessed hamm..eh i mean ancient hammer for 396% weapon dmg :d.

At the same time he has the passive tough as nails, warcry(impunity) which raises his resistances by 80% and he also has sprint(marathon) for tactical reasons. I does seem quite fun and very potent against most threats.

I am very much hoping, that the paladin or a similar class will return in the expansion. Everything also suggests, that there will, since as you correctly mention, that there arenīt any shield specific skills/passives like holy shield or smite, then thereīs a niche to be filled, which could perfectly be filled by the paladin, although a remade one like the rest of the classes.

I think shield barb with some of the skills runed available will be a powerhouse, with overpower and what not, he'll be high spike damage and tanky. SEXY

It's too soon to say whether we need a shielded Barb or not.
This game is just beta now. Things will get harder and especially in Hard-Core mode, when your biggest concern is how to survive, then a hard shield and a defensive skill plan will are always your TOP choice, why ?, because you're Barb, then you're in the front line !
